I don't think it's necessary, I just drive to the track, do a relatively easy first session and then go at it.

Technically you should go out and do it's first heat cycle on the track and then let the tyre sit for 24 hours. Unfortunatly I don't have a 2 sets of track wheels or a method to transport multiple sets of wheels to the track even if I did so I don't have a choice.

Just drive to the track the first time. Nittos and R888s are not delicate wrt heat.

Manufacturers' sites will tell you more. They do recommend scrubbing in and then leaving tyres 24-48hrs to rest and recover. Did that with my R888s by taking a spare set of wheels in the car to Winton.

Heat cycling can be done by installing tires on the car and running 10 to 15 minutes on a racetrack. Start with easy laps, and build up speed as the session continues. End up running 5-10 seconds off your normal pace and be careful not to spike the tire temperatures by spinning, sliding or locking the tires.

An important step in tire heat cycling is that after being brought up to temperature, the tires require a minimum of 24 hours to relax and relink the bonds between the rubber molecules. Drivers attempting to heat cycle tires in the morning for use a few hours later in the afternoon will not experience any benefits from the morning attempt at heat cycling. Heat cycling tires on Saturday means not using them again until the same time on Sunday.

I agree with manga_blue, NT01's seem to be fairly insensitive.
For the last 2 years, I have used a set of NT01's each year.
With the first set I did a relatively gentle run at a practice day, then put them away for a week before using them again.
The second set I took new to a supersprint, doing the first run a little gently, and then going for it.
I haven't noticed any difference in longevity or grip between the 2 sets, but then, maybe I am insensitive too! :-)

Not a silly question. It depends on which tyres. When I bought my current set of Yokohama A050s, I was advised to treat them gently on their first day of track use to heat cycle them. Otherwise they would wear very quickly if not treated this way. I've spoken with people who didn't follow this advice and they were disappointed by very rapid tyre wear. You can pay a little extra to get them heat cycled too.

Denis, I had my A050's heat treated in the oven before running on the track because as Bryan said, they cost a lot ($1800) and you don’t want to get three track days out of them before they’re gone. Even with the pre track oven heat cycling they still said to take it easy on the first run.

Obviously it’s too late for you to get that done now, it needs to be done before fitting, so…….I didn’t tell you but this is what I did for my V70a’s.

Find a non-built up area with a 100 klm limit, plenty of vision and a few twisty bits and see if you can get the temperature up in them. Remember that you’ll get more heat through braking than cornering, so this is why you need clear vision.
Next remember that they let go really quickly when cold, so take care.
Build the temp up slowly through cornering and braking, taking the corners at 50% of the speed that you would do at full throttle on the track. So if you could take a 45kph road corner at 90kph on the track, take it at 45. Remember that you’re only trying to get the operating temperature (60 degrees) in the tyres.
This is really hard on a public road because other cars can come along but try the heavy brake, corner, heavy brake, corner, method for 10 – 15 minutes before driving home and taking the wheels off and stacking them flat. Good luck.

On Sunday at the track, do an easy first session, don’t over drive them.
And no 4 wheel sliding, no understeering/oversteering on the first day.

I had my Nt01s heat treated at Gordon Leven while mounted on wheels.
So it can be done after fitting if that helps?
