Suspension is stock height.
Rims are 16x7.

Any clearance issues ?

I'm trying to get a wider foot print on the road. Should I go to 15" rims ? Any suggstions welcome.

205/50 on 16x7 +29 will rub on the plastic inner guard on the front over bumps (moderately low) so 225 would likely need some rolling and inner guard work depending on your offset.

Are you just going for the wide-tyre look?
If not then Stop over-thinking things and just buy the best tyres available regardless of size. A 205 series Bridgestone RE003 will far outperform a 225 series Achilles ATR (for example).

225 vs 205 is obviously larger with all things being equal, but unless you are buying he exact same tyres then there's a good chance that the difference is negligible. Firstly it's not simply 25mm extra contact patch because tyre shoulders are not perfectly square.
Secondly, (for example) the Nankang NS-2R is made with shoulders that are considerably more square than usual, whereas Federal RS-R have more rounded shoulders. Therefore you can infer that the contact patch between a 205 series NS-2R and a 225 series RS-R is definitely not 25mm.

Your right steampunk I'm overthinking it. Thats good advice and good info also bigdog. The front arch has a lot less space than the rear.

I ran 225/45/16 on 16x7 with +40 offset. This is actually the same rolling diameter as 225/50/15 which a lot of guys race on.

A 225/50/16 has increase of of sidewall height of more than 10mm over a 225/45/16, so they will likely rub.

With standard SE suspension my 225/45/16's would just clear. Front camber maxed out and rear matching at -1.5 degrees.

When I put Tein coil overs in it would just touch on the front guard liners on the worst braking zones over bumps. -3.25 degrees camber.
It would also touch slightly on those little half mud flap things at the back when running over ripple strips. -2.5 degrees camber.

So width wasn't really a problem, only the height.
You could take out the guards liners at the front but then you have the issue of dents from stones.

Over the years I have collected wheels I need with each having a purpose.
I have a set of 15x8's with 225/45/15 for the track.
Original 17x7's with 205/40/17 for rego and shows sand stuff.
And I just got a set of 205/45/16 back onto my 16x7's for motorkhanas so I don't ruin the 17's.

What do you use the car for?
What width are your 16's? When I had the 225's on the 16x7's they just never looked right, like they were being pinched.

Use is GT and cruising with the odd 'spirited drive'. As steam punk inferred I'm looking for a wider footprint on the road.
Rims are 16x7 Mullins.

I think I'll just stick with excellent quality 205/45-16's.

MINX rubbed his front inner liners in his SE running BFGoodrich 225/50/15s so you'll have he same problem on 16s.
