You missed the point, that is unless you have more fun on straight roads. Surely the whole point of a challenging, twisty road is to get round them safely, on your side of the road and, as you say, as quickly as possible, otherwise there's no point in looking for twisty roads, is there??!!
If you were test driving some exotic Lambo and had 15km or windy, hilly road to yourself then surely you would use the road to your best advantage. This means entering corners at higher speeds and hitting the apex spot on while utilising both lanes of the road. If you think about it, if u were to stick to a single lane then your speeds are slower as you dont have nearly as much road to work with when entering corners. Generally, a single lane means lower speeds round corners and a different apex. Its all relative to how much road you have got to work with. If you've got two lanes then why not enjoy them! My 2c.

side impact bars were fitted to aus delivered cars.
also, regarding the eunos roadsters that have since been imported, part of the compliancing is to retrofit side impact bars.
my aus delivered na6 has a jap door (coz i bent the original one) that has a new bar welded into it.
