I have brought this up with the committee, but the added cost of getting over there deemed it just too expensive, Pity because the 'ol home state has a lot to offer :D
Look at the vic club website in the photo section and there is a collection of pics of our trip.

can't be too expensive, you'd get family rates everywhere.

 sorry, couldn't help myself
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I'm jealous! You will have a great time! We expect a full report on your return. Are you catching a day or night boat?
Cheers!

Tassie's Fantastic Roads

Postby tasroadster » Thu Jan 26, 2006 12:02 pm

Yep........very spoilt in Tasmania.

As I live in the north of the state and as an ex Queenslander, the roads are so well surfaced even out of the way "country lanes" are just first class.

The road t0 Craddle Mt. (there are two ways to go) are excellent. You just want to turn it around go again. One route is actually 50% of a Targa Stage which speaks volumes. Wiithin a 10 radius of Devonport there a 4 Targa Stages availible. Great for that after work drive :-) Or pre Symmons Plains shake down :-)

Does anyone in Tasmania want to get together for a drive? Then maybe we can invite some other (mainland) MX5'ers over??? There are many inexpensive places to stay. And maybe we can all do the 47km Mt Arrowsith Targa Stage........now thats a drive!

Thanks

Arrowsmith used to be a 52km stage, started prior to the bridge. Then the avg speeds must have got too high. Certainly a contrast to the 99bends out of Queenstown. All the passes on the East Coast are good too (Elephant, Weldborough, St Mary's), but Sideling is top fun even if I got to the end of the stage one less time than I started.

Tassie Roads!....Mmmm. So many memories.

In 2002, I surprised the little lady of 26 years marriage to relive our old sports car days and we hired a MX5 for a week from Launceston Airport. A red 2002NB. The roof was down from the moment we got in it and stayed down for most of the trip. MX5's turn heads down there, despite the exotica that must be around at Targa time.

What a hoot!

Roads superb! Middle of winter (July) great. Clear skies....only rain we encountered was around Hobart. Best roads on the East Coast around St Helens (where we were based)....St Mary's Pass, Elephant Pass...all the coastal roads...etc, etc.

Two days after getting back bought a SP from Southport Mazda.

Went back to Tassie Jan 2005 but had to hire a Tarago for all the rellies. Toured the West Coast this time. Fabulous country...but for my mind the East Coast is more MX5 friendly...Having said that. If you come from Western Vic, SA, or WA...then ALL of Tassie is great. Loved it. Recommend it to anyone.

Tassie Roads

Postby Hurricane » Fri Feb 08, 2008 4:06 pm

A group of us from the Sydney part of the MX5 Club went in our MX5's in Nov/Dec last driving down across on the Spirit of Tassie arriving at Devenport and driving right around through Elizabeth Town, Sheffield, Cradle Mountain, Strahan, Hobart, St. Helens, Launceston, Beaconsfield, Stanley and most of the state really and the roads are made for our little MX5s. If you ever get the opportunity do it. We even managed nice sunny days. We came back up through the Alpine Way, Thredbo and Tumut on our way home. A truly awesome journey.
 8) :P :)

The Canberra Chapter Targa Trail 08 kicks off with our (16 cars) arrival on Tuesday 29 April.

We would be pleased to catch up with you although we have the Georgetown Prologue planned for that afternoon after checking into our accomodation in Launceston.

Targa Trail 2008 is supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania

When do you guys hit Melbourne? Maybe the Melbourne mob could have a meet and greet or a feed or a cruise with you all, time permitting.
