Ipod adaptor Q - yes i have searched

Wow there's not a lot of room in there behind the stereo! I have installed the AudioLink and it is working great . The audio quality sure beats that silly FM transmitter that I have (that no longer works anyway). Very happy

I rarely listened to the radio before, just loaded 6 CDs in the stereo and swapped them every now and then. Now there will be no need to worry about swapping CDs . I am very impressed so far. Thanks for your help and reviews Richard

I'm right on the cusp of buying one of these. Now that you guys have had a couple of weeks living with these adapter, have you got any comment on their performance?

I've had mine in for just over a week now, and it has been working very well.

At this stage I have only been using it in the normal iPod operation mode (not the playlist mode) where you can still use the menus on the iPod like you would normally. iPod sits in the glovebox and it starts playing when I start the car, and pauses when I stop the car, then starts from the same place next time I start the car. I started it playing on the All Music list on random, and have just been listeding to all my songs randomly, I love it

A few observations I have made:

If the iPod is in the standby mode (as in, at the main menu, not playing a song) it will start playing all songs. You can select random at this point in the iPod to listen in random order.

When operating in the normal iPod mode, you can skip though songs, fast forward and rewind using the control buttons on the head unit, but the random button doesn't put the iPod into random mode.

So far I haven't really used the playlist option (pressing the Disc up and down buttons put it into playlist mode), but when I tested this I found that I couldn't quite figure out which playlist it was playing (maybe it is just the way I have organised my playlists). Also when it is in playlist mode, and you turn the car off, the next time you start the car, the same song and playlist list will start, but the iPod is not in the playlist mode, it starts in the normal iPod operation. I haven't really used this option much yet, so I haven't yet decided whether this is a bad thing or not.

Anyway, I hope this helps. I would recommend getting one! Let me know if you have any questions.

One thing I forgot to mention, is that you can leave AudioLink unit in the glovebox, and take the iPod out of the glovebox and leave it on the passenger seat or in the centre console etc. When you close the glovebox, there is enough of a gap at the top that it doesn't pinch the cord.

ok, I took the plunge and bought the adapter of Heggs and installed it this morning.

Two questions for the punters already using these.

1. I notice that the Ipod charges even with the ignition off. Has anyone had any problems with the car battery being drained?

2. The cable that plugs into the ipod and the adapter has a 3.5mm male audio connector - any idea what it's for? The documentation was a little light on.

iPods (and most portable devices these days) have lithium ion or lithium poly batteries. One of the many advantages to these is that once they are charged they don't "self discharge" like nicads or metal nickel hydride batteries. So unless the iPod was left on over a (very) long period it is unlkely the car battery would be drained from charging the iPod.

For anyone into radio controlled aircraft these Li poly cells combined with brushless outrunner motors have revolutionised the hobby with their light weight, small physical size and incredible capacity. Just handle them with care.

This can be used to plug any other device with a line out or headphone jack (like other MP3 players etc) and play it through your stereo. It doesn't allow you to control or charge the battery of the device like the iPod connector does.
