looking at head unit guides they mention getting adapters to be able to connect stock wiring to aftermarket headunits though having trouble working out where to get these from
google searches with mx5 and miata dont show anything.

how have you guys done this as i dont want to hack the wiring even though its possible.

Hey mate, if it's anything like my wife's 121, could you not cut the old connector wires and solder to the new corresponding colour connector wires from the new head unit and wrap each one in electrical tape? took me no longer than an hour and is completely reversible (with new solder lol) and obviously not visible.

I got mine from Ebay USA. Let me know if you can't find them.

You can just cut them but I HATE cutting a harness. Cost was about 20 bucks and two Weeks.

I bought the matching na mounting unit, but didn't use it due to changing my mind on setup and gauge positions. Pm me if you want it, half of what ever the new price plus shipping and it's yours

From memory, I got mine at Autobarn. You need two: one that goes into the existing car plug and one that goes into the head unit. the two then connect together. Turns a "no longer than an hour" soldering job into a 30 second connection job.

It does make things easier - especially if you think there may be more upgrades in the future.

I admit I would consider buying an adaptor for my NA, but this was a sub-$2000 121 I'm talking about! it's the cheapest option anyway.

You can get the two wiring harnesses from repco as well. I can't remember what the part numbers were but I know that for my nb the wiring harnesses were for an older model falcon. Only ended up costing about $38 for the two together. Worth it over soldering in my opinion if you ever want to get a new head unit down the track. You'll need the main harness then one that is from that harness to the plug that your brand of head unit uses. Hopefully that helps a bit!

I got mine from MX5 Parts for my NA. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Just plug one end to the existing adapter and the other to the new head unit.

Can you get male-to-female extension cables?

I want to use the DIN spaces for something else, but still have the radio plugged in, so need extensions for the cables.
Aerial extension leads are plentiful, but haven't found an adaptor to extend the white connectors?

They're so so easy to wire up.

Simple as hell, go buy yourself a mazda plug that plugs into your stock harness, and then join it with the provided connector of your headunit.

there are only few wires, just split it up for simplicity's sake;
-hot and all times
-hot only in accessory
-ground

-FR speaker
-FL speaker
-RR speaker (only if you want to use your headrest speakers)
-RL speaker (only if you want to use your headrest speakers)

-power antenna (if you have one)
-amp illumination (if you have one)

should cost you $10 for the plug and 5 minutes of your time and you'll have a loom that you can plug and play loom.

other if thats too complicated, buy a mazda to iso and then iso to whatever brand headunit you have. all will be plug and play

My connector was a set of plugs for the factory harness with cable tails that needed to be soldered to the cable talks from the new head unit wiring. Just as easy to put some extension pieces in if you are not using the factory headunit

Dont cut the wires, use a wire stripper to bare them 10mm or so and wire in parralel, then its reversible.

Autobarn, Supercheap, Repco etc usually keep a selection of these in stock, but worst case will be able to order in for you. Mazda/Ford ones are often interchangeable.

Just wire that harness to the harness which will come with your head unit, "on the bench" and plug it all in to the car. Too easy!
