I was watching the speedo and doing the conversion to kph, either the calibration was wrong but he wasn't as fast as most guys go down the main at Lakeside on an MX5 day!

BUT .. if nothing else, it sounded nice!!

My #1 reason why I don't like quick release wheels.

Stock wheel - crash happens, chest impacts broad flat wheel surface spreading load.

Quick release - crash happens, wheel flys off, chest impaled by exposed steering column.

That's not how quick releases work, hks_kansei...

And if you're wearing a seat belt (or a harness, in any racing car) how the hell is the steering column going to get anywhere near your chest?

It does happen, I have a friend who had an accident in his MX5 a while ago, wearing a seatbelt, impact at 60kph.
The steering wheel was bent where he hit it.

There's huge forces in a crash, and a quick release is basically adding a pre-weakened part to the hub.

Thats not how they are supposed to work anyway but there are hundreds of videos online of them coming off mid race. I would hazard a guess that in the stress of getting ready for a race they are just not checked thoroughly enough, especially the splined ones where it might be on so the car can be steered but it is not actually locked on.

Best system I have seen uses a dimpled shaft, you pop the wheel on and if it is not locked it will just spin around the shaft with a loud clicking sound.

Even a race harness will stretch several inches, only needs about 50kmh to do it!

The first video posted of the white NB's does anyone know are these cars in class 2f or 2b ?

As a new owner to a track built NB mx5, I was surprised how well this car seemed to go in the video.

Interested to know if this was on semi slicks or full slicks ? And approx how much hp/kw would this car have ? Is it std internal or built engine ?

Looks like alot of fun :lol:
