How to check if a MX5 is an import

Postby lsducati » Mon Dec 13, 2010 1:01 pm

I have been looking at NA's for a few weeks and the cheaper units seem to be imports. Is there an easy way to tell if a car is an import . The eunos badge is a giveaway but is there anything else I could look for.

I believe the speedometer in a Eunos goes to 180kmh. Aussie ones go to 220. You can also check the compliance plate on the firewall. A Eunos would have a large span o time between the build date and the Aussie compliance date.

Look at the sun visors - If they are covered in Japanese writing (no English) then its probably an import  (I noticed this on my NA8 which is an import - Not sure if it would be the same with NA6's).

And pretty much everywhere else, door jamb, fuse box, stickers on underside of bonnet etc.
