A newbie should be concentrating on holding speed manually, not letting some gadget do it for them.

Cruise control is a great tool, sometimes i wish i could bring myself to buy something new and boring enough to have it... but new drivers need to have the skills to back up the gadgets imo.

In this day with penalties applied to P plate drivers, a cruise control on a country/interstate trip could easily be a licence saver.
A newish drver is far better off watching the road than spending too much time looking at a speedo.

So the second they need to drive something without those comforts they just can't and are totally overwhelmed?
