TURBO NA6 CLUBRACER...............streetcar?????

Postby lightyear » Tue Sep 22, 2009 10:19 pm

Does anyone know why my clutch slips in the morning then works perfect after the first or 2nd session?? I have done 3 track days now and each time i think i need a new clutch then it comes good. I also have a good pic of an nb for aero.

Perhaps some oil is seeping past the ream main seal and it's being cooked off once the clutch warms up?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I did the australian supersprint championships on the weekend. It is the only level 2 cams championship as far as i know. They do the championship over a weekend once a year in different states. I think it is great competition and everyone interested should take part. Next year it is in qld. Every state was represented with over 50 people from n.s.w. alone. I did a 1.51.7 in practice on sat but could not match it during the day, as practice times are not counted at the end of the day i was in 2nd by 0.1 of a sec. I knew i had to try real hard on the sunday morning while it was cool, and i managed to drop half a second. Then the next session i dropped another half a second. And the guy in the b.m.w could only make up 0.2 of a sec. So that made me the winner. yay for me. I got a "trophy" a vase. Winning and getting a trophy doen't come close to knowing that i did a 1:50 in a shitty old mx5, spinning 1 wheel out of all the corners, and standard brakes. Only the really highly modded ($$$$$) cars were faster.

Rear left tyre- nothing left on the inside half. Note no rubber build up.

I relocated the battery. I figured the weight be better next to me to offset my weight rather than behind me.

I removed the bar reo and drilled some small holes in the bar.

There would be no more than a couple of dozen things to defect on the car. I am a little concerned about driving on the road, but so far so good. It's all about karma. lol. I did over 600km's on the weekend about 200km's at P.I flat out over the 2 days.

Doing a major overhaul on the car. It looks like it has been in a big crash. I have pulled the front bar, radiator, intercooler, doors, gearbox, bonnet, etc off. I am mounting a smaller intercooler up partially thru the bonnet, and laying the radiator back on an angle to make a "v" set up. It will all be panelled to catch all the air and there is going to be a massive hole in the bonnet. The carbon fibre doors will be on soon as will a new gearbox as i lunched 4th gear synchro at sandown. I put a torsen diff in a couple of weeks ago too. If i get time i will put a complete flat floor and rear diffuser on as well as side skirts. Next i want to make up a new aero front bumper and front guards like this.

And i think i will do the timing belt too, as it is so loose it doesn't even touch the tensioners.

Were you having any heating issues before? A V-mount will be awesome, but its a lot more effort than a front mount. What are you planning on doing with the oil-cooler?

What are you making the under-body aero out of? Carbon fibre would be expensive for a part that's going to cop a beating if you go off, but I guess since you do it all that yourself maybe its worth it?

Yes, it seems to be overheating a lot more now. A friend told me it could be timing due to the timing belt being so streched. I am not taking any chances. The oil cooler will be mounted at the front drivers side. The under body aero will be made out of a sandwich of alloy and plastic. I think it is alcubond or something. I have used it for the front splitter/undertray. Very light and stiff and doesn't cost much. It is used for signwriting and doing shop fronts.

Ahh, the V-mount will definitely be a huge help then. I suppose the timing belt could be a likely culprit, but even if just replacing it would fix the problem the V-mount gives you more headroom before you start running into cooling issues again. I take it when you say driver's front side, the oil cooler will be in front of the radiator in the V? I was wondering if you were going to try and find an especially creative spot for it, but it should be just fine there. That alcubond definitely sounds like good stuff, I'll be its easier to form than a sheet of aluminium too. Where you do get it from?

I've just read your thread 'cover to cover'. It's a great read, and you've done an amazing job! You should be proud of what you've achieved.

boost works here in adelaide were having some cooling issues with there bp turbo rx3 club car tryed every thing the last time i spoke with them they had done a coolant re route taking it from the blank thermostat housing at the rear of the head .there next run at mallala was a very stable car temp wise on a much hotter day .have you thought about this at all as a lot of the japan racers do this to an its a little less involved than the v mount
