TCRs 2F road/race car

Well, the installation of the new flywheel and clutch didn't exactly go to plan, but in the end we got there.

Luckily we had access to a friends hoist, so this made the job so much easier. We started about 9am Saturday morning and had the job all done by 4pm. Unfortunately, once I jumped into the car to take it for a test run, we discovered that there was not enough travel in the clutch pedal to fully disengage the clutch. We spent another hour trying to find the issue but called it a day at 5pm and decided to come back on Sunday.

Sunday morning I drove into another friends workshop and picked up a new slave cylinder, master cylinder and braided clutch line just in case any of these were the cause of the issue. After completely removing the gearbox again and measuring up my flywheel and clutch against a spare my mate had, we discovered that the second hand flywheel I had was slightly different and when the pressure plate was bolted down it pulled the fingers in too far. We decided to use my mates spare until we could sort something else out and bolted it all up again.

Whilst everything was out we decided to remove the factory clutch line and brackets, and install the braided clutch line anyway.

Took the car for a test run and everything seemed to be working fine. Just need to get use to the different take up position of the clucth pedal and the on/off nature of the new clutch but it's got plenty of grip :)

Weighed the old gear when I got home and it was a total of 13.7kg so the new setup is 3.7 kg lighter.

Sorry for the dodgy phone photos:)

Yes.

I had no problems getting a mod plate for the full cage in my car. The only thing to consider is that technically you aren't allowed to run additional side intrusion bars, so I made mine bolt in which mean't they can be removed if neccessary. You will also need to have the padding around front of the cage.

Paul.

From all accounts it seems they have relaxed the side intrusion and general full cage rules some what. Too busy setting up speed cameras to worry about it, it would seem.

Rob,

It cost me about $1700 for my weld in, 6 point full cage with removable side intrusion bars. I had to strip the car ready for the cage and then paint it when it was done.

Not much to report in the way of work lately. I have fitted a front lip, just need to wash the car before taking a few more shots.

Here are a few photos from the recent Bathurst weekend.

Not yet. I'll give the car another wash and try and get a decent photo of the car :)

Got stuck into installing my Race Technology DL1 data logger today.

A big thanks to Renato from MotoKinetic for hooking me up with this 20Hz unit. Here's the kit ready to go.

Image

I had the perfect spot picked out to mount it, but because the unit needs to be pretty level to ensure the accelerometers give accurate readings, I had to put a bit thought into the mounting brackets. After some measurements, I came up with a guide to give me the correct angle. Here are the finished brackets.

And then all fitted up to tombstone blanking panel.

Image

Next step was to install the GPS Antenna. Obviously the magnetic antenna base wouldn't stick to the fibreglass hardtop, so I had to use a leftover 3M adhesive pad from my GoPro camera to stick it to the roof. Then tuck the antenna wire away as neatly as possible and into the back of the tombstone.

Next I ran a RPM pickup from the Tacho and connected the power plug to the cigarette lighter (sorry got a bit slack with the camera here :) ) Plugged them all into the back of the unit and refitted the tombstone.
