You know as well as I do that the devil is in the details, you need to work through it slowly, double triple check everything, do everything right first install of the KL, and then just enjoy it :)

Should make 350whp with the blower depending how hard you spin it :)

I absolutely agree, the details are everything. I've had the KL/K8 in and out of this car so many times because of stupid little things. When the KL finally goes in it's getting all new gaskets and I'm leak checking the sump-block seal because it seems to be a recurring problem and can't be fixed with the engine in the car.

350whp sounds awesome, especially with blower torque from idle :D But the rational part of me is thinking more like 250whp so I don't bust the gearbox/engine. I just want it to be a bit quicker than my mates MY10 WRX (if you're reading this Bryce, it's on )

LOL.

The weird truth to my story is that Ive never owned a turbo car, infact never anything but N/A 4 bangers. So I dont challenge any of my mates, cos they all have 300whp that I built for them haha.

those hood risers are going to do exactly nothing to improve cooling through.

Thanks 16bit, and I agree completely on the hood risers. However, they do serve an important function in this instance (they stop the bonnet hitting the engine :P)

hahaha, genius.

:D

Well apart from a few oil leaks, blowing smoke and running rich the car is running quite well. I took it to the mighty car mods meet in Silverwater and it made it there no probs. I then tempted fate and drove it to uni today. I arrived a bit late but it made it there and back :D

I've converted the engine to COP ignition to try and fix the ECU cutting out problem, but it turned out to be some setting in the ECU which was causing the problem. However I'm happy it now has COPs, they look much better than the super long HT leads all over the engine bay. I'll take some pics tomorrow but the COPs are from a CBR1000.

I also tuned the overrun part of the map quite lean and retarded the ignition, it now pops and bangs like a mad thing off throttle :D A bit ricer-ish maybe? I don't care, it's awesome

Nice to meet you the other day mate. :) Your car was just tucked away in the corner for most of the day but it would have attracted some puzzled looks from those who went up to check it out, haha.

Fantastic job! When I first posted in this thread, after you first got the car, I obviously assumed you were a regular newbie to MX-5s. Never in a million years did I expect you'd end up here! Well done!

It would be awesome if you could bring your car to the MX-5 Club's Bits 'n' Bling show on 14 September. We're expecting well over a hundred people to attend and I'm sure your car would attract strong interest. Even if you're not a Club member, you'd be very welcome as an MX-5 enthusiast.

That's awesome, I can't believe it! It's actually the feature photo for that album on the Just Car facebook page!

A very belated update on the MX-5.

No idea what's happened here. It's a 3A racing air filter which appears to have disintegrated in a band around the middle.

Install and wire the new CBR 1000 coils

It works! However it didn't fix my weird electronic interference issue I'm having with the TPS. The only thing left to try is to wire the ECU's earth directly to the engine block rather than the chassis. If this doesn't work I'm out of ideas.

I found out why the car was missing and the TPS signal was so erratic. I feel stupid even admitting this, but I had the +5v and sig wires swapped  Not sure how it was even reading, but it explains the misfiring and general crap running of the car.

With that fixed and a bit more tuning the car now runs like a champ. It needs a bit more tweaking in the transient throttle response and could also do with leaning out the upper load ranges, but otherwise it's running really well :)

Went to the MX5 club Presidents Picnic today and it was awesome, I've never seen so many MX5's in one place :D Way more supercharged examples than I thought were getting around, awesome :D
