Cheers mate! Was such a surprise to meet anyone from the forum in South Gundagai of all places

The MX-5 now has the KL 2.5L engine and made it to and from Wagga Wagga without breaking down (much)

Since the MX is now working so well I've been concentrating on getting my S13 Silvia working properly without so much turbo lag.

yep its an ls1 from an ss.

zorst, throttle body, intake and tune are surely good for 400hp.

and with a cam on top of that more like 400hp at the wheels

The Silvia is driving around now, I just need to fix up the exhaust, fix a few small leaks and... weld up a crack in the cylinder head

In the rollover the exhaust manifold was ripped from the head and it looks like it's made a really small crack between the water jacket and the outside of the head. As far as I can tell it's not cracked into the combustion chamber or oil passages so that's something.

Anyway, I've been driving the MX-5 every day and it's working brilliantly. Still has a small oil leak at one of the rocker gaskets and needs new plugs, I'm going to fix both at the same time since they each need the intake manifold to be removed.

I just spent 5 1/2 hours cleaning up the garage and parked the two beasts in there for a photo shoot

It's like car heaven

Nice work BB! You've got the best of both worlds - a small fast car to zoom around in, and a grunt-meister when you feel the need.

Thanks mate. Unfortunately I can't afford to keep both registered so once the Silvia is engineered I'll be cancelling the rego on the MX-5

In the mean time I've just been enjoying the car, it's so much fun now that it runs well and doesn't leak oil

Also the Silvia is going for undefecting and unregistered vehicle permit early next week. Then it's just emissions test, weighbridge, noise test and engineer inspection

Yeah, into the garage long term until I've finished my degree and have time to supercharge and engineer it

... unless someone makes me a decent offer in the next couple of weeks.

Just giving you a heads up I don't think you will pass emissions with that airbox on the s13. A friend of mine was failed because he was running an aluminium airbox, switched it to plastic and breezed through. That was for an EPA test, then he used it to get his engineers certificate.

Thanks mate but both my engineer and blue slip guy think an aluminium airbox will be fine. There's absolutely no reason why it wouldn't be allowed, I'd be interested to hear the reasons for rejecting an aluminium airbox. I'm sure I could find some stock cars which had aluminium airboxes.

I don't see what material the airbox is made out of affecting the emissions test in NSW. From my understanding it is a simple pass or fail based on what comes out of your exhaust pipe following the IM240 procedure.

That's for the emissions part anyway.

Although that now has me thinking. Who checks things like having a catch can vented to atmosphere?
