Nope!!!

Poor old Bluebird dies so it was a quick decision to buy a newby!!!My choice was the Type R but after second thoughts I don't think it would be the ideal DD, so off to Mazda for a SP, unfortunately the salesman didn't won't to sell me a new car even after walking in and saying "I'm here to buy a car today". So off to Mitsubishi and now we have a Lancer. Wendy is happy and thats all I need.




Well plenty done to Scooter today,

New seat in and relocated the harness to suit,



Numbers fitted by my neighbour, who's a signwriter, made it look so simple, stayed with Slammer's numbers



Fitted shift idiot light, will see how long that last before I get the shits with it flashing at me



Picked up some new rims and tyres, if its wet on Monday I'll run the Dunlops, if it's cool, i'll run the new ones, and if it's hot I'll stay with the slicks.


New radiator didn't turn up so I'll have to wait for next weekend to fit.

Cars going in this week to have the extractors fitted and system modified. Am I being lazy? nope!!! $100 to fit and modify system to suit plus
gasket, for that money why would you fit it yourself??????

Well radiator is finally in, dropped straight in only mod was trimming bottom hose to stop it kinking. Bloody good value for the money and arrived at the right time, I actually put my finger through the old core taking it out. Me thinks it was f*&ked.



Reasonably well made.



Scooter at play after much playing around, wish I'd had the extractors and exhaust all done for Lakeside, just have to wait for next Top Gear meeting!!!!! The new system is making heaps more useable power all the way through the range now instead of nothing then everything.

Howdy!

A fun day today at QR for the Topgear Sprints. Last time out there I managed a best of 1.10.6 with new front tyres, so today was to see if I could better that time.

So on go the new rims fitted with Toyo 888's, only thing was these tyres are 4 years old, been fitted to 2 other quick Mx's and are nearly down to the thread wear indicators. Still enough tread to be legal, just a little hard

First run out best lap of 1.10 dead, into the pits and Ash Millars pit crew jumped straight to work, check tyre temps and pressures and adjusting accordingly. Me, I just stood back and drank plenty of water. So a BIG thank you to Graham, Errol, Steve and his son, I could certainly get use to that service

Second run out down into the nines, still pushing Race Car Rentals car, just a bit hard to stay with a 1800 stewart motor. Still into the corners and under brakes I made up time.

Third run down to 1.08.7 and beat the others to turn one and then pulled away slowly lap after lap.

Forth run still in the eights and stayed consistant.

The sprint rules have changed, passing anywhere as long as you can make it stick and do it safely.

So came home with less rubber and a straight car, gotta be happy with that!!!


This is why I bought and set up Scooter and now its time to enjoy

Well poor old Scooter is not looking too good at the moment,


BUT, all will be hunky dory in a couple of weeks,

Started the motor strip down today, looked at the thing for a while then decided to bite the bullet and start to remove the motor.

Working on trucks all week, I didn't relish working on Scooter as doing engine work on cars really pisses me off. No room to move, plenty of skin removed everytime you try to do anything.

Well I learnt something today, this car is so easy to work on its not funny. 4 hrs and the motor stripped down and ready to come out.

Pulled off the head to get an idea of whats ahead and found plenty

So this week I'll strip down the bottom end, measure up and decide whats going to happen. so far the valve guides are rooted, valves sunk in the head etc, so full rebuild of the spare head which already has been relieved so the big cams will clear the follower housing and mild clean up of the inlet tracks eg casting faults.

Come Feb will be all ready to race (I hope)

Was checking the oil and found it had become very dirty (full syn ) in only 2 track days, so started to look to find out why. I found that the air intake resonance chamber had gone back onto the alternator and worn a hole through it, thus one dusted motor!!!!
Also as I want to do as many of the Top Gear events and all of the 1 hr events as possible so I'll need a good engine!!!!
I looked at going the 1.8 route but have to change too many components that are new, so I'll stick to the 1.6.
And I was going to do a spare engine for later on but just moved it forward 6 months

Ok, found an weak point in this engine that I thought I'd share and how I've fixed it ( dunno if the 1.8 is the same).
On the back of the cylinder head there is a water outlet for obviously a different vehicle (maybe FWD) It's in a prick of a place to try and replace the rubber plug especially on the side of the road.

So I removed the plug and pipe with my trusty vise grips and tapped a thread and fitted a bung. Neat and no more potential problems.

Obviously a mod done when the cylinder head is off!!!!

Hi all,
Well short motor is out and stripped down, ready to go to the machine shop in the morning.

Cylinder head is at a specialist race engine builder, he's a perdantic bastard but thats why he's got two SC championships under his belt I suppose!!! He knocked the spare head back that came with the car as it had the bucket areas ground back so big cams would fit, in his opinion too much material removed and had weaken the head to the point of guanteed failure

I have modded the air inlet so that no more sucking dust and F&^Ked motor!!!


I spent the weekend doing what I hate about doing engines CLEANING, thats what apprentices are for.
Cleaned sump and cleaned up all the dags and smoothed the inside so the oil can return to the pickup quickly.

Lots of cleaning up of the intake manifold track, what a prick and time consuming job, but will be time well spent.

I stripped and checked the oil pump, all the clearances were well and truly within spec, had to shim up the relief valve back to spec. So 1 job finished

I knew that the car had a lightened flywheel but I didn't expect this



Trouble is I can't use it so I've had to buy a std unit and have it machined plenty

I've order all my parts except bearings from the States and Canada thankfully the A$ is reasonable ATM.

I keep you up to date on whats happening as it happens.

Hey Geoff,
All good things come to those who wait, so everybody who are doing my machine work are telling me.

The head is well under way, most of the machining work is done, and the assembly "should" be all finished by next weekend. Unfortunately my head isn't the only work Keith has on at the moment.

The block, flywheel, pistons etc are all being done at the moment, balancing will be done this week.
Still waiting for parts from the US, some company's are brilliant 949 Racing is by far the best I've ever dealt with, 4 day after ordering the parts are waiting for pick up from customs. Some still haven't even departed from the stores yet!!!!!

Still the price difference makes it worth while.

Why would a standard car surprise people Geoff????

Hi All,
A few bits came back last week so I assembled some of the bottom end,

some of the parts for the motor


Spent Sunday morning filing rings, gees I hate file to fit rings, but the benefits are definately there!! Then I assembled everything, just waiting for the ARP bolts for the bottom end and I can finish it off and drop into the engine bay. The head is still not finished, no excuses, he wants to do it when he's in the mood Promised for next Tuesday!!!
So this is how it looks at the moment.
