SE Update
It's been a slow start to the new year, Darren has had more straight forward jobs take priority over a project like mine, which is understandable. But This week we're back on!
This Subaru took priority over my SE, the owner posted the "spotto" to one of the FB groupsDarren has fitted up the flattop intake manifold and Skunk2 throttle body, with ID1050x injectors under the fuel rail, and the Kraken exahust manifold, turbo and dump. He's noted the usual fitment issues that the likes of Lokiel have pointed out, namely the AC line that drops down in the same place as the dump pipe, the ABS line that drops down the the front passenger wheel, and also the heater pipe under the manifold. But he's all over it and is making the necessary adjustments.
Intake side is taking shape
Turbo is test fitted
Fitment at the rear is clear of the firewall shelf, but the ABS line needed to be bent out of the way, and AC needs a re-route
Bird's eye view
Not clearance issues with the shelf under the compressor housing as is the case with FM's manifoldThe turbo is clocked in it's final position, and now it's time to sort out the plumbing for the coolant, oil and air. Coolant will come from a Flyin Miata coolant re-route, which has barbs especially for a turbo water feed and return, the stock SE ports will be blocked off. Oil will use the SE's stock oil feed and return.
The IC piping will follow the SE's path, and he'll try to reuse my Nitro Dann intake shield, which would be excellent. The man who will fab the IC pipes should be in next week! I've opted to go with some aluminium pipes, and I'll leave them in raw colour rather than paint them. I quite like the raw silver. As the hot charge pipe will pass near the air intake, as it was in the previous configuration, Darren will wrap the IC pipe to prevent heat transfer to the fresh air going to the inake.
So, things are progressing now. I think we still need to sort out a new catch can setup, the old Nitro Dann one won't work in it's current location, as thats the same area as the hight mounted turbo, and well the turbo takes priority! We might re-locate the can elsewhere, but I'm not really sure it was working properly, it never collected much oil but my intercooler pipes had a film of oil in them. It might be best to start fresh?
I'm heading down there this Wednesday to collect the discarded parts, hopefully I can sell a few of them on to other users, but I think I'd like to keep the stock turbo as a trophy
