Re: Great Seat bases just a question

Thanks Andrew. The project is a dream I've had for a number of years.

Where with a little triangulation or even linking into the horizontal seat mount reduce the stress on the side mount bolts tying the side forces into the seat base as well.

You might have missed the gussets in the screen shots from the Solidworks model. They go from the seat bolt node point to seat rail bolt node point to considerably increase the strength and stiffness of the adaptors.

CONTI wrote:By the way are they from folded plate?

Yes the main component of the adaptor is a pressing. You would be shocked  at how light weight some of the off-the-shelf seat to seat-rail adaptors you can buy are ...some I have seen are as light as 2mm thick (might have even been 1.6mm with thick paint) without gusseting and have as much of a mounting offset to deal with as I have had to with mine.

Danny

Two seats hey... Who's going to be brave enough to ride shotgun? This thing is going to be FAST.

I can't wait to see your cage design, will the front legs go through the dash or run closer to vertical and miss it? Will you do door bars that are bolt-in or welded?

What did you end up doing for drive shafts from RX-8 diff to NC hubs?

What is going to end up on your daily RX-8, the supercharger or the turbo?

CONTI wrote:So when will production start and be drilled for a NA or will I be forced to breach copy right?????

I guess if there are enough people who would like side-mounted sprints in their NA then I'd have a look. However the bottom mounts pretty much line up with the mounting points on the standard NA seat rails (minor modification to one hole of the seat rails I believe). Every NA I have seen that has a Sparco Sprint fitted utilises the bottom mounts.

Do you work part time for CSI?

Soooo many questions!!!

A(1) Shotgun list getting longer by the day

A(2a) They will go through the dash and follow the line of the A-pillars as best as good structural practices allow.

A(2b) I'm undecided about the side intrusion (door bars) design ie. whether removable or not. Would prefer welded in though.

A(3) Nothing as yet...waiting for more parts to arrive.

A(4) Absolutely no idea....but when I do the answer will be on another forum.

Danny

Due to work commitments and alike very little has happened since March. :frown:

The very little that has been achieved relates to the preliminary design work of the roll cage and the basic sizing of the A2W IC for the Eaton s'charger (even though it won't make an appearance until sometime next year).

Here's the basic sizing of the IC core for comparison with the s'charger.

The below bracket is part of the standard NC soft top frame. It also provides the structural tie for the standard roll bar as well as the B-pillar mounts for the removable hardtop. I have drawn it up in Solidworks as I will be integrating it into my roll cage (both the LH & RH brackets).

As mentioned previously, I'm still waiting on the supply of some more parts. Hope to see them within the next few weeks.

Cheers,
Danny

Your solidworks skills and dedication with measuring components is commendable

I think I'm more of the tape measure - it'll fit, kind of person

the guys over in the clubman site do a quick bending and torsion test themselves before doing the real thing with dial gauges and some heavy weights which is a good idea.

Nice build by the way! So whens the SW thread coming up?
none as yet - looking for a white NA8

Thats me too, thats why Danny and his company have been doing work for me lately. Everything is drawn up by Danny and Ben and is manufactured and fitted to micro measurements, meaning everything fits exactly.
Gee Danny, if you wanted a blower all you have to do is come around to the shop and take the unit sitting on the floor FOC!!!!  might be a BIT heavy though! It's even watercooled.

Hi Michelle, lucky for you I'm happily married to my WIFE, otherwise....no lets not go there     !

Thanks for the kind words on the build. I'm certainly enjoying following your restoration....it really is rewarding isn't it?!!! :D

You hit the nail on the head....I really want to give those front runners at Timeattack a bit of stick....once I finally get the car going and sorted.

For the first time in 7 months she is a roller! This is what 7 months of dust looks like :( .... she will get a wash very soon.

I really love its rear end...

Now that she's back on the ground, it is time to get on with the roll cage....of course when work allows!

The rear section of the exhaust and the blitz s'charger kit are due next month...I like bolt on bits because you get a result without a lot of effort. 8)

Danny
