Weevils 94 MX5 Clubman track hack

Postby evil_weevil » Thu Jun 03, 2010 9:22 pm

Well,
Ive been on the forums for a while now so thought I would start something here!

First of all - Big thanks to Paul - TCR. He built 95% of this car and did an amazing job.
:)

I previously had an R33 GTS25t (who hasnt??! haha) and it made a decent 255rwkw. had some decent mods and did a few supersprints/hillclimbs and even superlap in 2008!
So, wanted to get more into racing, and was sick of pouring money into a skyline.

For as long as I owned my R33, my Dad has had his NA6. I drove down Old Pac and Galston Gorge and couldnr beleive our fun a stock, low powered car was around corners!

started looking around at other options, and everywhere I looked and people I talked to, MX5 was always on top of the list.
So...I bought one!

Paul had it built and logged as a CAMS 2f prod sports car.
When I bought it it had...

6 point full cage
sparco drivers seat and daytona passenger
harnesses
stripped interior
TEIN flex coilovers
whiteline front sway bar and bushes
tow hooks and battery isolator
15" wheels
braided lines
hardtop

so, decent gear on it already which was good as I wanted something 90% done so I didnt have to pour money into it like my old R33

Since purchasing the car...
got it engineered and rego'd in NSW
Mania cold air intake
Extractors, high flow cat and 2.5" cat back exhaust
ASI 42mm radiator
Mania water/coolant reroute
ecliptech shiftlight
RDA slotted rotors all round
Front intake light scoops

I think thats all I have done!!

So 2009 I did an interclub supersprint with a club Im with which is the Southern Sporting Car Club.
In the sprints, Im in class 2B. in 2009 I won my class in the club and also the inter club challenge. Was pretty darn good feeling!!!!!

I then decided to get into door to door racing and did an MRA round at Oran Park.
This was awesome! It was such an eye opener!!! I never came last and had some mad battles with other cars - the MX5 really held its own out there!

So a few photos....

the car next to it, is *hopefully* going to be my tow car with a month or two!

My first MRA meeting, was epic fun!!!!!!!!

MRA start

So....
where was I besides posting photos....oh yeah!

I raced at MRA in December on a saturday, sunday was the Skylines Australia show and shine which I was going to (Im still on the comittee) and I started the car...had a bit of a rough idle...hmm...never heard that before!!
anyway, she warmed up and ran well.

the next weekend I did my last ever meet at Oran Park. it was running pretty ordinary....called it quits early as something wasnt right.

I finally got the car to Unigroup Engineering in Giraween (http://www.unigroup.com.au) and turns out I dropped cylinder 4.....

2010 I havent done much at all car wise. I got married, honeymoon, bought a house.
Poor little Rosie has been sitting on the back burner but NOW!! she 's back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got the head fixed, bit of a cleanup and service.

she now makes 75.4rwkw or 101rwhp!!!!
I'll use the 101rwhp as it sounds more hahahahahahah

so not bad considering, unsure of next mods now powerwise.....

Oh, painted my wheels while the car was at the workshop

before.

After!!!

Turbo NAs are in group 2A since they were never available from the factory with a turbo. There are a few 2As running in MX5 Challenge, and Lou's winning green beast is for sale if you're interested.

Looks much nicer with the black IMO,

Guran, Ive already aquired an Mx, also I would have been looking for something registered as opposed to dedicated track car.

Looking forward to it, be good to put a face to the name. I just hope the forecast is wrong and it doesn't rain... I swear I've never had a wet trackday where my tyres weren't completely bald
