On Monday I bought myself this:
http://s1366.photobucket.com/albums/r778/Dan_mx5/?action=view¤t=IMAG1878_zps56a37310.jpgIt's a 1990 model, it has a replacement engine with 121,000kms on it.
After I bought the car and started driving it more often I noticed a horrible buzzing noise. I was concerned it was a serious problem, my mechanic checked it out and it's just the clutch.
First lot things on the agenda:
-oil and filter replacement
-transmission oil replacement
-diff oil change
-rocket cover gasket replacement
-advance timing to 14°
Hopefully get the first 3 done tomorrow!
Love driving it on the twisties around home!
Can't wait to get the minor things fixed so I can start doing performance mods to give it some more PEP.

Never. They're just objectively great. Even the icons are red.

Looking forward to Sunday's club run!
Red is the best colour!

Tip on changing the box and diff oils? Undo the filler plugs first before drain plugs. Nothing worse than finding out you can't refill it.
In case you don't know where the filler is for the box, it's on the passenger side halfway up, square drive.
Diff filler plug is a very annoying 23mm.

Haha no not yet. Still settling into the car.
Had it fill up with water through the week, sorted now though.
First thing I want now is a hardtop!
Saving my little pennies.
Is hesitation normal when the old beut is cold?
Every other car I've had revs cleanly even when cold, figured it was because its old.
Might add plugs and leads to my list of to do.

Yeah my NA did the same thing when I first started driving it. I don't know what actually fixed it, did comprehensive service - all oils, new plugs, new Leads, advanced the timing, reset the idle, checked over all the electrical wiring, sensors, connections etc, then gave the engine bay a huge clean and after that weekend it became a lot better!
I find it better to allow both my NA & NB to warm up a little prior to heading off. Fixes the cold gear change issues.

Cheers for that!
Once I have a bit of money I'll be doing a fair bit more work.
The seals in the around the turret are buggered,
Centre console is in bits and I need stands to do the diff and transmission (can't fit under car really).
Need a hardtop!!!
Once I have cash I can start ticking off things on the to do list.

Presently, there are four hardtops listed on ebay.
Two in Brisbane but the condition they're in do not match the asking price. Best stay away from them.
One in NSW and another in Victoria. Both good units but too far away.
Keep looking but be patient, hardtops usually appears around summer time. Also if you happen to wander onto the northern suburb, do drop into automotive plus as they usually have one or two lying about. I saw a blue one at the last detail day, not sure what they want for it but it could do with a respray.
