marty085's latest NA

Postby marty085 » Fri Jun 13, 2014 5:03 pm

Hey all,

So I'd been without an mx for a while (I think I sold my NA6 in July/August last year) and of course had been missing it a fair bit. Been driving the in-laws falcon and for various reasons got a bit tired of that. Went looking for NB8As and ended up bringing this home...

A very clean 1995 NA8 with what seems to be 93,000 genuine kilometres on the clock. Drives real nice (gear shifts very tight) albeit with a hesitation / flat spot at times when warm at 2.5-3k rpm. This wkend doing a baseline service and also have bought new NGK spark plugs and leads. The current leads look like 19yr old originals and judging by the receipts I don't know that the spark plugs have been replaced since 2004. Hopefully that will solve the problem...

Body has been professionally resprayed to original colour. Downside is some internal surface rust and corrosion due to it living at Bondi for a number of years. Had it mechanic checked for visible structural rust. Interior in good nick but the first thing I did when I got it home was remove fake woodtrim stickers all over the tombstone, door cards etc. they were starting to come off anyway. Need to attack the sticky residue this weekend. Should clean up nicely.

Looking forward to first real drive in it :D

Unfortunately I had not even had it at home for half an hour when some punk ass mothertrucker three a Big Mac all down the side of it, at speed. Seriously, wtf is up with people.

Opinions sought: the previous owner in Feb this year had all hoses and water pump replaced. But no timing belt change. Should I just leave it until 100,000km being a non-interference engine? I don't think it's ever been done so will be due in 7,000km...

Welcome back Marty!

I'd do the belt now (or as soon as you have the opportunity to). It's less the issue of something breaking, but the inconvenience of the belt going when you are going somewhere.

They have to take the belt off to do the water pump, not sure why you would put the old stuff back on.

Welcome back Marty. Still haven't seen you cruising around the area.

We have a short run on Sunday (was a long one), come along.

Thanks guys. Might call the mechanic who did it, maybe he inspected the belt and found it wasn't that old or something..
I've seen u round heaps of times over the last 6 months Regie lol, but I've either been in our Mazda6 or the in-laws' Falcon. Thanks for the invite to this Sunday's drive, not sure I can make it this week I'm afraid.
