I've done 6am runs where you get stuck for WAY too long behind someone, and 9am runs where you cruise for 20mins without a blockage! Seems to be kind of random. To be honest the pushbikes aren't really the biggest pain... as you can overtake them on any uphill segment, and without having to swing wide into an oncoming lane. The PAIN is the occasional sedan going slow for an extended period with no overataking zone. The WORST culprits in my experience, are those huge cruiser style motorbikes that do 40km/h, fill a lane, and don;t want to let you pass.
Like I said, I haven;t yet found any great benefit to going earlier rather than a bit later. We must get up there soon!!
