Well, if it's just the top plastic tank that's broken (common problem), you can take out the radiator and get a replacement top tank fitted - not too expensive at all.

i heard around $100 - $200
MX5Plus apparently has a 2nd hand one thats off a 05 had 17,000ks on the clock

Yep $100-$200 is about right. Call a few radiator places - most can do same day. The top tanks do crack where yours has. I've seen one blow a whole chunk out of there. When they go that brown colour they don't have long to live. The replacement top tanks seem to be thicker too. The one from MX-5 Plus sounds good too.

so if i go and have a look at this tank MX5Plus have and its not that brown then I should be alright

what colour is it when new?

too bad i can't fix it in time for tomorrow

and Richard isn't there tomorrow so i can't fit it and catch up to you guys

The one at MX-5 Plus will be spot on. The factory ones are black. Normally, replacement ones are black however, just to confuse things, some replacement top tanks are brown. :roll:

no fun without the mx5 on the road

anyway took out my radiator hopefully richard isn't busy tomorrow arvo he said to call him tomorrow and he'll let me know
