Took the car for the 10 minute test drive today and she goes nicely. You can certainly tell the difference.

I imagine it runs much better now you've introduced a combustible liquid

Well done Mikey! Top effort getting it back together, and adding extra bling whilst you're at it.

As far as the ISC, my symptom was the opposite. At lights the rpm would increase to 1500rpm not decrease, as the intake air bypassed the closed throttle butterfly.

I assume you have done the idle adjustment by now and have a clean throttle body?

Jules, so when the engine is warm/hot, the ISC should be completely close hence shouldn't be drawing any air. I took it apart and found the coolant blockage path causing the engine to heat up more than usual, empty that out and she' now running at nom temp, but still idle rough...not as rough as before but still rough, I'm starting to think seal leaking or maybe it's stuck open / not closing properly...anyway to recondition it back to normal, or has it had it.

M

Minh,

Well done on the coolant clearing, and yes I believe it should be closed when hot.

I don't think the rough idle has anything to do with your ISC. The rough idle is a mystery to me given you've changed your plugs, leads and coils. I don't think you can recondition them. Richard at MX5 plus got me a used replacement very quickly. Blindingly fast actually.

It actually looks like the rough idle and vacuum leak might have been due to an ill fitting PCV grommet (Sean did suggest I replace it for aesthetics, but it seems the old one was also a little oil hardened).....

Took the one off my original cam cover (the polished one) and put it in the red one and once started - no rev seeking at idle...

All I need do now is warm it up, go for a drive and see how it behaves at lights.

:D (I hope)

Then it might need to be dyno time :D
