MX5 BREAKFAST CLUB – SASSO MEMORIAL RUN – 15 MAY 2011

DETAILS: Join the MX5 BreakFast Club on the Sasso Memorial Run, an early 280 kilometre spirited drive up the Putty Road to the Bulga Bridge Cafe to meet up the Hunter Chapter for breakfast. After breakfast we will all head off up to top of the Putty Road at Singleton then across to Gresford and Dungog before a drive down to Vacy on “b” roads to our lunch venue at Treehops Restaurant in the Eaglereach Wilderness Resort perched high on a hilltop overlooking the Paterson River Valley.

This event is a memorial run for my friend Gerard Sasso and his untimely loss to all his friends and the MX-5 community on 6 May 2010. With the anniversary of the accident behind us, join us to celebrate Sasso’s passion for life and his little red NA6 with a spirited drive up the Putty Road in your MX-5, something he would definitely have approved. The run is also an opportunity to reflect on the dangers of driving on public roads and road safety issues. With the support of individual Club and Forum members, help make the Sasso Memorial Run the biggest MX-5 social run of the year if not ever, as a tribute to his enthusiasm and love of the MX-5.

TREEHOPS RESTAURANT & EAGLEREACH WILDERNESS RESORT
Eaglereach Wilderness Resort is situated a few kilometres west of Vacy high up on a hill that rises above the picturesque Paterson River Valley. On arrival you can take a walk around the resort or relax with a hot or cold beverage and enjoy the view on the deck. Lunch will start at around 1.00pm at Treehops Restaurant. Visit the linked webpage for the resort and view the current lunch menu and details about the resort and your lunch venue. Your lunch menu will be posted the week before the run. Everyone will order and pay for their chosen lunch individually on the day.

REGISTRATION
There is no formal registration requirements for this event. To minimise delays in providing meals we need to know how many to cater for. For catering purposes the cafe at Bulga needs to know the numbers arriving for breakfast at 9.30am. Treehops Restaurant will need some indication as to how many people to expect for lunch at 1.00pm. Lists will be posted on the Forum thread starting from mid April and you are asked to add your name to help with catering.

3 RUN OPTIONS
There are three Club runs.
• Up the Putty Road for Sydneysiders who are able to rise early and enjoy clear open roads and kilometres of tight twisty bits.
• A second and later Sydney run from Mt Colah, for those who prefer to get a bit more sleep on a Sunday morning or a more leisurely traditional club run to the Hunter Valley on back roads to lunch.
• A third early run is being organised by the Hunter Chapter to meet up at Bulga for breakfast then lunch.

The runs are as follows:

1. Early Run - McDonalds, McGrath’s Hill – A LONG SPIRITED DRIVE – Deen Hameed will lead the BreakFast Club Run
Meet: 7.00am for signing in, 7.15am briefing, start at 7.30am sharp for the Putty Road.
Route: A 155 kilometres route straight up the Putty Road to Bulga for breakfast at the Bridge Cafe with the MX-5s from the Hunter Region. The combined run will leave Bulga by 10.15am for the drive to Singleton and up to the picturesque Lake Saint Clair before a run across the top of the Hunter Valley through Gresford and Dungog to Vacy and our lunch venue, a drive of a further 125 kilometres.
NB. Please remember that after you leave McDonalds McGrath’s Hill there is up to a 2 hour run with no public toilets or convenience stops before breakfast at Bulga.

2. Later Run – McDonalds Mt Colah – SHORTER CLUB CRUISER RUN – Mark Garvin will lead the Club Cruiser Run
Meet: 9.00 am for signing on, 9.15 am briefing and start at 9.30 am sharp for the F3
Route: A run around 100 kilometres starting along the Old Pacific Highway then entering the F3 at Berowra for the run to Calga then on to Peat’s Ride to meet any cars from the Central Coast. The route continues through Central Mangrove to Wollombi for a convenience and refreshment break. From Wollombi the route goes across to Cessnock then up to Maitland, Paterson and Vacy for lunch at Eaglereach Wilderness Resort a distance of another 85 kilometres. – See More Info on the Club’s Event Calendar http://bit.ly/hcyVtP

3. Hunter Run - BP Service Centre Beresfield - AN EARLY RUN TO BULGA WITH A COFFEE BREAK - Phil Mayo will lead the Hunter Run
Meet: 7.15 am for 7.30 am briefing and a start at 7.45 am sharp
Route: An 80 kilometre drive, with possible coffee stop, along the New England and Golden Highways before turning down the Putty Road for Bulga to meet the cars on the BreakFast Club Run for breakfast at the cafe at 9.30am. After breakfast the two runs will merge for a run across the top of the Hunter Valley to lunch at Treehops Restaurant. See More Info on the Club’s Event Calendar http://bit.ly/hcyVtP
NB. An early coffee stop will be at the discretion of the run leader.

I might see if I can tag along with somebody doing the Hunter chapter run. Seems like a good opportunity to meet some people and get an idea of the club runs - and also get a ride in a '5, as I haven't even done that yet!

If anyone on the forum here is planning to do the Hunter run and wouldn't mind having a passenger, shoot me a PM. I promise I don't bite. :)
