no dyno? awww you could go out and get a DFA from jaycar and hook it up to your car.

you could also advance the timing to 14 degrees.. give you car that little more power.. :) come on you know you want to.. and then you can slap it on the dyno and beat all the preludes.. its a great feeling beating the 2.2litre gen3s and the single over head cam 2.3l gen 4s.

This dyno thing - is it a T-rex?

I just wondered, 'coz I would recognise it being about the same stage in development myself....although now I think about it, haven't seen one for a while.... :(

As a matter of interest, what can you expect out of a standard '90 vehicle, and what improvement from ignition advance alone (running on 95, obviously)?

it all depends on the dyno.
advanced timing to 16deg one of those oily airfilters in the standard airbox with the snorkel removed i got 64.7Kw

advanced timing to 15.5 mania CAI ,tightened spring in AFM, I got 75Kw

but 2 different Dynos years apart.......
The important thing is how you compare to other cars with the same spec as your own. You can notice differences of 6Kw between cars of the same spec.
thats really when it gives you an indication of true comparison.
As well as if you do a before & after.

but my guess with the timing advance only will probably bring about 2-3kw ATW. Its certinly not earth shattering but it a free mod.

How hard is one of these dfa things to build?

If its on the first or third weekends in March I wont be able to go, but second, fourth or fifth weekends I'm fine. First weekend I have another dyno day, third I'm babysitting my little brother and sister, cant fit 3 in the mx5

your bro can ride shotgun in another car.. im thinking last week of march cos the prelude guys are doing a melbourne road trip.

DFA was pretty easy to build, the LCD was a little trickier cos there are some pretty small solder points... needed lots of light to get it right.

buy the kit dude and i'll help ya build and calibrate it.

i'd really like to get a comparative run with some other mx5s cos last time i went on with 14deg advanced timing and my loch exhaust system i got 78.9kw.... and some say that was a little too high, but either way i was beating 94 prelude S and all of the Gen 3s.

I wont be making an appearance, I have a massive exhaust leak and my car will be getting dyno'd at boostworx when the SAFC is fitted and tuned. Need to save my pennies for that atm

I probably won't be able to make it to the dyno but I'll be keen on a cruise if any of you were planning to head out afterwards. ;)
