I think Dad was disappointed he didn't do the FOSC and entered me in the CAMS state round instead... he has taken quite a liking to that little circuit hahaha. I had good fun at Wakefield though.

Yeah, went ok til zee gearbox jammed in 3rd haha. I've got some video uploading now i'll whack it up soon. Unfortunately the video doesn't show any of the racing but i caught and passed sam silvestro in race 2 to like 5 times then be blasted past down the straight lap after lap, and the blocking started getting seriously aggressive, so i returned serve on the straight haha.

EDIT: Yeah numbers are pretty disappointing round after round at wakefield.... then they take all the spots at Bathurst and PI

Good to catch up with Craig and have some of the regulars (Chris and his dad) come down for support. It was also good to catch up with some new guys I'd never met before (Scott and Bill). Always good to put a face to a name.

Personally my day started off so frustrating I was tempted to go home but thought this will be the second race meeting I haven't turned a lap so decided to stay and work through my issues.

Firstly I had trouble starting the car, bloody thing wouldn't start no matter what I did. Luckily for me I brought a set of new spark plugs along which worked a treat for the rest of the day. Funnily the plugs that were in the car were near new and identical to the ones I put in. Go figure.

Secondly my biggest issue was my gearbox. Could only manage to get 3 and 4th gear. No first, second or reverse. Gearbox is supposedly reconditioned and had never been raced since the work was done so I'm hoping it is a gear selector issue although I had pulled out the gear stick out a number of times to check it out. I couldn't see anything wrong with it.

Even though I started off very tentatively from rear of grid and thanks to rolling starts I managed to learn the track by the end of the day and got passed a few cars but the blocking was unreal especially from one competitor (none of our boys) who was doing his best to keep me behind. Mind you we were racing for 7th and 8th position so I was left wondering what he was thinking. I'd hate to race against him if we were racing for a podium. Having closed the door on me a number of times I was hesitant in passing him. Eventually he made a mistake and I got passed him on the second last lap. I managed to do my fastest lap on the last lap of the last session.

Overall a great day despite earlier problems. I'm looking forward to going back there with a gearbox full of teeth.

Dammit Craig ; no Sunday results up yet. I had a great time with a close second behind MGB Steve in a field of about 8 cars including about 3 of the Touring Cars. I stuck close to Steve for the entire race but like yourself he maintained perfect lines and left no room for a sensible attempt. He said afterwards that he felt like we should both have run in the 1:6's. He also said that he outsmarted himself in allowing you through in Race 2 as he had expected to be able to get back in front after some chasing but you were too quick. I think he might be an MX5 convert if he ever gets tired of the MGB!
Darren came up to a close 3rd on about lap 3 and for a while it looked like he might make a run for a pass under brakes at the end of the longest straight section. Fortunately Steve and I were already positioning to the RH side of the track for the approach to the 90 degree left hander and he must have realised that it would have been more suicidal than brave to try to out brake us from the LH side. He stuck close for a while until he had a near lose in the dog leg corners before pit straight and finished a distant third but very happy.
Well done John for a mighty effort over the weekend under the circumstances. Mind you it might be in the best interests of non-boosted MX's to lobby for a change in the regs to restrict all boosted MX's to be restricted to using only 2 gears!

haha yeah I am for the gear restrictions! Think weevil would second that too. Yeah Steve in the red mgb can throw that thing around, I got a lead on him in my last race fortunately. He is quite good at closing doors too, hence the procession for the three of us for what 3 or 4 races?

All in all - fun weekend, Sydney turned on a cracker weather wise. Nice seeing the mx5 crew drop in over the weekend too, Steve yesterday, and Mike et al both days. That is a tough track, feeling comfortable in some sections but plenty of improvement to be had all over the place.

Timing was a let down, no live results on the web let alone at the track, yesterdays results still not on natsoft.

btw Bill - race render I have on my mac, not sure if it is available for pc.

Just checked out the next time FOSC is at SMP south. December is so far away, I don't think I can wait that long and quite frankly don't want to. Does anyone know who we could join to race with a AASA licence and logbook.
Am I to get a cams licence and logbook if I want to race at SMP. I'd really like to avoid it if possible.

You got it Scotty  and yes it can be a hard place to pace especially when you don't know who you're racing against. At least with MRA at Wakefield Park (Mx-5 Callenge) you know the boys around you care about their cars as much as you care about yours. From what I experienced on the weekend, there are guys out there that are not so concerened about there cars and more concerened about keeping you behind. Just ask Craig about his panel damage. Happened at a Supersprint event which should definately not be happening. Sorry just doesn't cut it IMO. Racing is a different story and you accept the possibility that it will happen some day.

Craig I'm talking about racing at SMP south.
