I had this discussion on rego renewal (NSW) with the GM at the first renewal after fitting the seat (Sparco FIA compliant). The Sparco is (was) not ADR approved, and the RTA don't give a rats about FIA standards - so the Sparco came out and was replaced every rego with the stock seat. Never pulled up by Plod, so had no problems there (though RBT'd a number of times).

After a long discussion, the BD was decreed ok as it met three tests - was not intrusive (into the passenger space), did not obstruct entry/exit, and did not obstruct (rear) vision. These tests were apparently (IIRC) laid down in some RTA (I assume) document, possibly the advice they provide to workshops doing the inspections. The BD is still in the car, and nothing has since been said (I am careful to always take it to the same workshop for the inspection, and they have never done any work on my cars - strictly inspection only). The BD does not have the CAMS sticker.

The 'modification' plate attached to mine for the rollbar is endorsed 'Queensland Government'

I've been in contact with Sparco's Australian distributor who confirmed that "the Sprint v seat are all ADR approved".

I've still got no idea about the BD bar though, so if anyone's had one engineered in NSW I'd be interested in the details. I had no issue with it at rego last year, but the roof was up and I don't think they looked inside to even see it. They were too concerned about the "massive oil leak" which turned out to be a small bit of residue from the oil change the week before.

News to me. There is no sign of ADR approval on my seat, but that might have changed since I bought it five odd years ago. Then again, I think mine is just a plain 'Sprint'.

Bump! I need some photos to use in the MX-5 Club magazine and there were a few photographers there on the day. Anyone willing to donate some photos?
