At wakefield on Sunday, on my second run my plastic roll bar mount was denied because it shouldn't approved by CAMS. That's fair enough, I spoke to the guy afterwards and he said I should get a metal roll bar mount as they will be approved. I'm just having trouble finding one.. I don't think they even make one. Any suggestions?

I saw them using gropro mounts on the v8s on the weekend.

So can not see why Cams would have an issue?

We have used the gopro mount at quite a few Cams events with no issue.

What an absolute joke, on Sunday they also cracked down on suction cap mounts etc.

Camzilla roll bar mount is your friend. I use one, does exactly what it needs to and rock solid.

Guys, I know there were a lot of frustrated people on Sunday, regarding the sudden decision to refuse suction-ups or plastic-mounts for cameras & GPS units. Mike is very aware of the concerns raised by drivers and the matter is being dealt with by the Club. Rest assured that the situation will be clarified to all concerned well before the next club trackday.

I've been asked to strap the camera to the roll bar on a couple of occasions with a couple of cable ties but never been told I can't go out.

That looks like a RAM mount setup, re-badged as Camzilla

On Sunday I was using RAM mounts for a GoPro and a laptiming unit.
These RAM mounts have aluminium balls, which are rubber coated, and aluminium arms.
Both my mount setups were initially rejected, and then passed on appeal, after I had added a few cable-tie loops to each as a secondary restraint.

So I suggest NOT investing in this sort of gear until there is further guidance from the club.

Spent a good hour searching the CAMS website to try and find the "technical document" referred to in the regulations.
I couldn't find it!!

Have sent an email to CAMS to try and source the document and will ring them tomorrow.

Never yet been told that an Etag had to be removed!!

Assuming we are talking about a speed event here the general regs that all cars must comply with just states:

14. have any camera/video recorder attached to the automobile as prescribed in the relevant Technical Document
contained on the CAMS Online Manual of Motor Sport – www.camsmanual.com.au

Unless CAMS can tell you the answer I could not see anything in any other section that would apply to speed events.

This was a bit frustrating on Sunday as I'd bought a RAM mount just for this track day and only got one run out of it!

I chose the RAM mount because of their reputation as being very solid. I tested the suction grip on the glass coffee table in my living room and I was able to lift the whole thing (20kg) without the suction giving at all! I understand that other suction grips might not be as secure and that means it's hard for scrutineers to police that sort of thing. It'd be great to have some clarification before the next club day.

Spreading the christmas cheer, I think it's more a one off people. Let's give them a chance to sort it by the end of Jan.

I understand the logic if applicable but like all rules, regulations and law, it should be apply reasonably.
