My SE at RTDC Round 4 Motorkhana

Hi All

Admin - If I have posted in the wrong place, please relocate as required.

Just thought I'd share some photos taken by my mate (Tony Smyth) at RTDC's Round #4 of their 2014 Championship.

I was the only MX5 there, but there were a number of MPS3 guys taking part, so there was a bit of Mazda family love :)

This is what I primarily bought the car for & was not only my first time in the car, but the first time I've actually taken part in a competition. Car performed well, but as I'm used to track work, it look a little bit for me to get used to throwing the car around... Only issues I found were a few funny noises & the handbrake wasn't performing as well as it should due to the pads being a tad low. All getting sorted over the next 2 weeks in time to hit up Wakefield ;)

Came mid field this time around, but expecting a much better result once the car is 100% sorted & the driver gets a little more practice.

Awesome!!
I would love to have a go at this.

I have done a couple of Motorkhanas at Nirimba but this looks much better.

Are the courses longer than the normal Motorkhana?
ie- do you get our of 1st?

Format does vary depending on the organizers of the event.

RTDC usually run 3-4 head to head courses in the morning which are generally shorter, then 1-2 full pan courses in the afternoon. You normally get 2-3 attempts at each course which is good for newbies like me. They also have lower numbers (Generally no more than 35 competitors) which is why you get a good amount of pan time. Some clubs run more courese throughout the day, but with only a single attempt & much greater numbers - Like double if not more.

Courses in the afternoon are designed by RTDC & their members for reference.

They do run a good event (Normally I help run the days) & are actually running the Motorkhana portion of the Nulon Nationals for 2015.

Great pics, looks like you had a ball.

Maybe advertise it on here before the next round to get some more MX5 guys involved?

Also did you just buy your SE? Pretty sure you are the guy Jono and Gavin were talking about when I saw them the other week.

Was great fun! Very different to what I've traditionally taken part in (IE: Track). I reckon this sort of stuff really improves your driving skill & quickly helps you to learn the car.

I did just get my SE - Got it end of Oct from Trav who was a forum member... Only been to one of the Shire monthly meets, but hoping to get to a lot more in the future :)

I'll make sure I post up their events :) Not sure if they've gotten dates for next years Championship from SMP as yet... I'll be doing the full championship next year to try & upset some of the 86/BRZ guys :P Gave one of them a drive of my SE & he was very impressed ;)

If you're interested, the MX-5 Club of NSW will be holding three motorkhana practice days on the SMP skidpan in 2015. There will be no timing but still heaps of fun.

I'll likely be joining the club soon - Nothing wrong with being part of 2 x CAMS Clubs ;)

I'm keen to get out there as much as time & money will allow.

I have been wanting to get into some motorkhana. Is there a good club that holds fairly frequent motorkhana events?

RTDC hold 4 events every year. WRX Club NSW also run a fair few days & have had a good amount of experience running them.
