MX-5 Cup Round 5

Only 3 weeks to go until Round 5 of the Cup at Wakefield Park. Huge field at the Nationals, great to see. But that has been run and won (big congratulations to outright winner Luke Otten), now time to get back to accumulating points on the way to a Championship win. Scott Walker leads the points table followed by Stuart McFadyen and Steve Green. But you gotta be in it to win it!
Big numbers at the last Cup round, 19 cars starting the weekend, so let’s keep those grids full all the way to the end of the series.

Here's a link to the MRA entry form for the round:
http://www.wakefieldpark.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2015-MRA-Round-4-Entry-Form.pdf
or you can enter online at the Wakefield Park website.

The MX-5 Cup is a development series for new and more experienced racers, so for any first timers keen to give racing a go now's the time.

Forecast is looking great for Sunday, could be perfect racing weather. Looking forward to my first Cup round this year!

Great day of racing that remained dry for the whole day - unless of course you count Luke's oil spill at turn 10, which made conditions fairly slippery at that point of the track for race 2!

High attrition though, including Keith (gearbox) and me (stone through radiator). Shame too as the car was damn fast - very happy with a 1:06.13 in quali :)

Echo that.

GREAT day or racing, had a great battle with Michael for a few races and that slippery rat up a drain pipe Stu was never far away either. There were pretty intense battles all up and down the field. Chris was on fire, too quick until he had to withdraw. Ian was...well he was just on fire. Spectacular but luckily nothing serious (I should have some footage later in the week).

I've checked my camera and due to a dodgy connection to my data logger, I have zero footage from Sunday.

Gutted!

The footage I want to see is a particular someone going through T2 backwards at a rapid rate of knots, right in from of Michael. No damage done (underwear excepted for both parties...)

I've seen that footage and it was awesome! I second that - it needs to go on YouTube ASAP!

with our gearbox failure we had the chance to go up to the spectators mound and watch race 2. good clean racing with a excellent dice between dave and chris. with large fields of mx5s running at track days and supersprints I cant understand why more mx5s don't run in the mx5 cup. aasa licence and entries are reasonable and a good bunch of people.

I haven't seen the footage, but the moment is etched in my memory and underwear. Unfortunately it was the first race ever where I have forgotten to press record on my in car camera... it even occurred to me about half a lap before the off, but I thought i'd better keep 2 hands on the wheel instead of reaching back and turning it on (it obviously didn't help).

I agree, it was a great day of racing - clean and fair (apart from the underwear), it'd be great to see more of the supersprint crowd take the next step to racing, because the 30 car field at the nationals was great fun.

Yeah I think I would be destroying the evidence if I were you too Stu.

Looking at some of my footage ....... my goodness that green car is wide isn't it?

In regards to supersprint guys joining in, maybe we just need to make sure they are aware that its good, fun, clean racing and dont need a 300hp car to compete and have fun.

Was a good fun day, ran a PB in qualifing.. but may have blown the engine in the last race, oh well it had a good life.. Hopefully it isn't too bad..

I think alot of us supersprint guys follow the mx5 cup. I know I'm always watching natsoft and waiting for the YouTube clips to pop up.
But I guess for alot of us. Our cars are our registered Street cars and although I'm yet to see traded paint on said youtube clips the fear is still there that with door to door racing it could happen. That plus the extra bits for the car to get it log booked as apposed to just turning up, strapping a Dorian on and going driving.

All that said. The way supersprint are charging the $/lap ratio looks way better doing cup rounds!

I hope to get out there next year for a few rounds
