Do you have to be superstar material to run in the by invite sprint competition? It's a hefty price tag for an event but would pretty awesome to do. I wonder how many Mx5s can do the minimum time.

Nick Cancian just went 15+ seconds under the Minimum time in his Turbo NB

I have done two of the regularity events now, lots of opportunity for red flags, crashes and oil down etc.

But if you lucky enough to get 6 green laps in a row you will love it.

Crikey! Not cheap - come back Charles, all is forgiven

Not for me thanks, BTDT and while I would love to go back, not at those prices. On the other hand, they allow driver pairing so you get two for the price of one, but half the track time.

Funny, they limit the regularity/sprint (which is it, they use both terms?!) to 2:36, I wonder if that is a coincidence, or has Russell's 2008 time in Turboboy had a lasting impact and become something of a benchmark?

I'd be interested, but not at those prices.

Nice clickbait post though...

I did check it out after you mentioned it Rod,

As much as I'd love to its a little rich for me. Would be awesome to fly across the top of the mountain and hit the chase full tilt though

Tempted... But that entry fee is excessive. I guess if they can fill the grid, good luck to them.

I'd rather do a couple of trips to PI - with tow fuel and accomodation included - for the same $$.

That was with 250something KW wasn't it? Not too many 5's in that territory!

That is 2.20 or so. That is an insane time for an MX5, even with that much power. I couldn't find confirmation on Natsoft, can anyone (oztrackdays?) confirm this time?

I watched much of the live stream and saw him do a 2:23 at one point during the race. Not sure if/when he went faster than that.

Bear in mind this is the quickest MX5 in the country, with an absolutely first class driver.

Unfortunately the change of date on this event means it now clashes with the MX-5 Club of NSW track day at Winton on 26th November.
http://nsw.mx5.com.au/events/club-track-day-and-interstate-challenge-winton
This will be the first track day run at Winton by the NSW club, and is also the 2016 Interstate Challenge against the Vic club.

Thanks Zossy, that is seriously fast!! I am going looking for some in-car video of it, I wonder what his terminal velocity was?

EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-KFqQslskk, that is Part 2, couldn't find Part 1.

2:36 Time is for Insurance/Safety

The 2:36 is more in line with the difference in speed to the slowest car, and the insurance permit for the event.

6 Laps / 20 Minutes

2:36 x 6 Laps = 15 m 36 seconds (out lap obviously slower)
3:05 x 6 Laps = 18 m 30 seconds (Slower Cars getting lapped by Fastest Cars)

They discourage cars getting lapped, 70-100+ kph closing speed differences with super confident
drivers in R35 GTR's etc will often upset a driver in a Stock MX5,Pulsar,Clio,Golf etc...

The Event seems expensive but it's 2 Days I will skip going to Wakie/SMP 4+ times for this track.
Eastern Creek charge $340 for a Half Day Track Day and Phillip Island Track Days are pretty rare and not cheap.

My suggestion is to not delay, they have 330 spots and a list of about 600 previous regularity
entrants that get first dibs during first two weeks or so. There won't be many spots left.

People come from Melbourne,Adelaide,Perth,Brisbane and everywhere else for this Track.

Do you have a source for the date change ? Not mentioned anywhere by Challenge Bathurst (website / facebook / etc), and no mention from the organizer of a large group booking that I am involved with (non-MX5 group).

You may be able to get a few trips to PI for the $1595 entry fee. but personally I'd pick one trip to Mt Panorama over many trips to PI, most fun I've ever had in motorsport.

Hi 1600Dave,

Yes it was an email from the promoters on 30/03, after I had put my name down on the interested list.

Cheers,
