MX-5 Cup 2018 entries open soon.
Round 1 is at Wakefield on SATURDAY 24th March 25 days from now. Info here: http://nsw.mx5.com.au/motorsport/mx-5-cup
If anyone is keen remember you need a Racing Licence, AASA or CAMS (both require a medical) and for the car either a AASA passport or a CAMS log book.
You don't need a dedicated track car. I race my road registered MX-5 with a CAMS approved half-cage roll bar.

Wakefield Park has a Speed off the Streets/Test&Tune day on Friday 23rd March, perfect for practice before round 1.

Entries are open now for round 2 of the 2018 MRA race series at Wakefield Park.
This incorporates round 1 of the MX-5 Cup.
Entry is $260 for the day + $30 dorian hire if needed.

I am aiming to try and make the second round of the MX5 cup. After a few years away it is time to drag the race out from the back of the garage!!

MX-5 CUP Round 1 Update
8 Entries in so far for 2018 MX-5 CUP round 1 which takes place on the 24th of March. Don't forget to send me your series entries prior to the event. Lets make round 1 a great start to the season with a big grid to welcome some of the new competitors set to join us in 2018.
ENDURO
There are already five MX-5 CUP competitors entered into the Sunday's 1 hour Endurance race. I expect this event will likely be fully subscribed with a bumper field. Check out the MRA website for more details. Supp Regs for this event should be available on the MRA site before long.

I had a look at the draft shedule for round 2 MRA - incorporating round 1 of 2018 MX-5 Cup.
On Saturday we have a 10 minute qualifying session then 6 8 and 10 lap races. 13 MX-5s have entered.
On Sunday we are invited to join Super TT and we get a 20 minute qualifying session then a 8 lap race and at the end of the day a one hour enduro with a 5 minute compulsory pit stop.
There are 27 entries for Super TT, 8 of which are MX-5s. We were expecting up to 40 cars so 27 is a relief for me as this is my first enduro race.
Qualifying times from previous events show a fastest of around 1:04 which is what Verne and Todd are capable of.
At the other end of the grid are cars with previous qualifying times of 1:14 to 1:17 so I shouldn't be right at the back with a current PB of 1:11.25 and Friday and Saturday to improve on that.

Great day of racing for round 1 on the weekend, thanks to everyone for some good fair competition.

Here's a little mash up of some of my best bits. Not the most wheel to wheel action, generally a furious first couple of laps then settling into putting some clean laps in to catch or lose someone... All good fun.

Looking forward to round 2!

"MX5 Cup Round 2 is now done. Thanks to everyone who competed today.

Todd Herring won all three races, took out the open Forced Induction class and the overall round winner. In the process he set a new MX5 Lap record with a blistering 1:39.8433.

Ben Cathcart had a great meet finishing with a full swag of 24 points to take out class A finishing top of class in all three races and 2nd outright for the round on count back to qualifying times.

Paul Nudd took out Class C accumulating 22 points to finish 3rd outright. Great work Paul.

Lou Lezzi took out the class B win.

The short 3 lap Trophy race results were:
1st Todd Herring
2nd Verne Johnson
3rd Ian Caldwell.

Next Round is with the club track day at Wakefield Park and entries are now open."
