Since I found out, I have always used the bigger ones. I figure the bigger the filter, the bigger the filtering medium, the faster/easier the flow.

Considerably bigger than the other one.

Valvoline = VO5
Ryco = Z79A
PureOne = PL14459
Ryco# Z436 is for the smaller filter.

I recently pulled a Z411 filter off my 5, same diameter as the Z436 but about an 1.5 inches deeper, cleared the bracket infront of the filter by about 5mm when screwed out.
Z411 possibly has the same filtration are as the Z79A, but the Z79A being shorter and fatter seemed like an easier option for installation/removal
I think we found the Z411 listed under 323, not sure what years

My wife has a 06 Honda Element which has the long oil filter that also fits my 01 Miata. I buy the OEM Honda ones in bulk off Ebay & used them on both our cars now. Before on my 01 I use the OEM oil filter for a Mazda Millenia which was the longer one. But couldnt find them in bulk at a good price. I have cut both open to see what they look like inside. The only differents I see is the Honda has a different type oil by pass set up than the Mazda ones. Have little to none lifter noise at start up with either oil filter the Mazda or Honda. With other brands I did on the Miata.
