The cheapest bang for buck ive heard of it...

1: Remove catalytic converter
2: Find large broom handle
3: Stab broom handle into cat vigorously until full penetration is achieved
4: Shake out resulting debris
5: Wella, instant hi flow cat...

whilst your at it you can also get a drill and put a few holes in your muffler for that TUFF note...

You did say cheap after all..

(I borrowed this idea from another post ive seen previously... Tried it out last week myself, car runs so much better and really turns heads, especially when i rev it really hard whenever i go past a cafe with street side dining...)

actaully the most satisfying mod ive done so far has been getting rid of the ignition alarm that used to go of every time i left the keys in the ignition and had the door open...

That used to drive me soooooooooooo nuts...

\"Dammit car, shuddup already... i know where the figging car key is alright...\"

It might be the perfect accessory for an electronic supercharger.......

Why an electronic supercharger? How much psi to they put out? I've always been curios as they are advertised everywhere on ebay.

or you could go all out and get one of these

Although either option is a total load of crap and a complete waste of money.

The thing that you found may fall into the same category, it may even be made by the same people!!!

The principle is there but it ain't gonna compare to supercharging the old fashoined way. And that performance module on ebay looks nothing more than a resistor with some wires coming out of it. Like I said, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. I wonder if anyone has actually bought those things. Hmmm...

OK, the little 20BHP chip IS nothing more than a resistor. The idea is that your car will always drive like it does on a nice cold morning. For $20 or so that is actually good value, considering you can put an exhaust on for $500 and get 15-20hp max out of it. They are pretty useless on most cars though, and don't make ANY difference. I don't know anyone who has tried one on an MX5, but it would be interesting to see if they got a kilowatt or 2  I would put a DIY CAI on instead(actually, i did).

Electronic superchargers - Increase airflow from around 250CFM to 900CFM (i'm not actually sure what CFM stands for, i'm sure someone here can help though.) The write ups on them say that they produce 1-2psi of boost. Again, i don't know anyone who has one, but saw a commodore once, and when it stoped there was a hissing sound coming from the engine bay(while stopped). I asked him what the noise was and he said "That's my supercharger." At the time i thought he was an idiot becasue his blow off is set so low it doesn't even hold boost while idling. Now i realise it was one of the electric ones.

They are nothing more than a fan in your intake. IMHO, neither of these mods are worth the bother. Especially when the ESC costs around $400  Go get that exhaust done instead. 8)

The main reason cars feel peppy on a cold night has more to do with the intake temperature rather than lower coolant temp.

A fan type of 'blower' is a non-positive displacement and takes very little to stop it from pushing air as the fan will just sit there in it's own vacume. Most superchargers are positve displacement meaning you can't stop the air coming through, just cause presure back through the vanes, and back into the crack via the pully.

1-2psi would be lucky, though how much power do they use and what load does that put on the engine? If it drew 1000w, it would need close to 2000w of power from the engine, being 2kw.

CFM is Cubic Feet per Minute, I believe.

Actually, 1000w was a stupid claim by me

Jaycar's most powerful fan is this 240v 40w fan that does 230CFM but that's only with zero resistance to the flow. As soon as you start pushing against something, like intake restrictions, then that drops dramatically.

Here is a link to some stats on Turbo's and CFM
http://www.wrxworld.com/projects/AVOTurbo/index.htm

Key to this is that they still push 400+CFM at 14.7psi, or 1bar.

Here is another link talking about electric S/C's
http://www.halfbakery.com/idea/better_2 ... percharger

Looking through that site, it's actually pretty cool, with heaps of novel \"half-baked\" ideas. I guess that's the point.
