Cooling issues

Postby Rob81w » Fri Sep 01, 2006 1:57 pm

G'dy all,

As the temperature increases, so does my temp guage.

As soon as i am in the slightest amount of traffic, it starts climbing, to the point were i have darted off down side streets to get some air blasting around it.

I have done all things, including, coolant, thermostate, water pump ect. The only thing i havent done is re con the radiator. i dont want to cough up $XX amount to find it makes no difference, the thermo's are working.

any other thoughts? oh, and its topped up with coolany and isnt losing any?
Cheers, Rob

Fan working?

A reconditioned radiator is not too expensive if it's just the top tank required. Top tank failure is common at that age.

Replaced the radiator cap?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Does it only happen in stop-start traffic? Is it fine when driving at normal speed? If so, then your thermofan isn't turning on - and it's either the thermoswitch, or the fan itself.

my NA6 used to have the same problem. i though it was the fan. the water pump clogged a few weeks later. the problem disappeared when a new pump goes in.

Good thanks mate - see my fellas out at Woonona - they did me a full recore (PWR HD) with brand new tanks for ~$400. Alternatively, try Mazda. They might suprise you. Boyracer also likes the ADRAD brass ones for ease of repair should you evern need it. Price is similar too. 8)
