Car wont start :(

The last time i used it, i had to crank it a few more times before it would come to life.

Fuses look ok, has half a tank of fuel, will check the fuel pump and spark in a minute.

Anyone have any ideas :?:

CAS (does it even have one) or an igniter module :?:

It has just over 150,000km's on the clock.

plugs are dry

lead check out ok

from what i can tell there is spark

Yeah i'm thinking that may be the problem.

Just shorted GND and F/P in the diag connector and i get a click so the realy is working.

How do i tell if the pump is running or not :?:

Can you hear the whirring of the pump when you short it? Might not be audible from the engine bay with the NB, so get someone to stick their ear to the filler with the lid off.

There is a high pitch noise come from the engine when the key is in the on position. When i short the fuel pump all i get is a click and thats it, no more noises from the engine bay or the fuel tank area and the first noise doesnt change.

Where is the fuel pump and how do i replace it :?: or is there another way to test it first :?:

Bummer Andrew.

The fuel pump is in the tank. You have to pull the carpet away from the rear deck to acces it. I recently saw some info on removal and testing in the miata.net garage.

Could it just be the battery?? I've just had similar problems in my other car, and it turned out the alternator was past its best and not charging the battery properly. It ended in tears by the roadside with a flat battery, waiting for a towtruck for 2.5hrs... Cranking an engine into life is a big drain on the battery compared to what it does while driving.

Dont think so, it still cranks nice and fast and there is spark.

when you connect the F/N & GRD .....once you put the ingition key to ther on position the fuel pump should start to hiss....... if its not....its your fuel pump. Mine has the same issue.....except that it may have an intermittent fault. But its getting replaced in a few weeks.

not sure if whacking it will help as its surronded by metal but you could try it. A $35 relay is probably worth having anyway.

once you hear the fuel pump working you will know it......pretty hard to miss once you start listening to it.
