Strange Engine Sound...

Postby Boags » Fri Mar 16, 2007 12:35 pm

Hi guys,

I've developed a strange whistle coming from the intake somewhere.

It starts from about 2000rpm and gets louder the further down my right foot is. I'm guessing it's got something to do with vacuum, any ideas?

I'll post some pics of where it is coming from later on.

Boags :)

A leak in the intake will usually show up as rough idle....are you getting that?

Did someone install a SC while you weren't looking. :P

Could an exhaust blockage cause a whistle?

One of the hoses on top of the inlet manifold that bleeds vaccuum off to help the engine. Possible crack or simply come 'off' the spigot it shoud be on.

If you can hear it whilst driving I suggest brake booster or heater control unit (are these vaccuum operated on an MX5?).

Last time I had a loud whistle from an engine it was a burnt exhaust valve.
