I got the stock CD out thanks for the help!

Im stuck I have cut up some coat hangers to put into the holes

when I put the wires in I do feel some resistance like like im pushing a spring or something.

Im trying as hard as i can to yank the cd player out but it wont budge.



If I cant get it out im just going to use a crow bar and smash it into tiny pieces

The way the CD player works is that the springs/clips/whatever are facing you if that makes sense. In other words, where you insert the prongs is basically a big gap in the metal where the clips splay outwards towards you. What you need to do is move the prongs so that they're on the outside (as such) of these clips. Then do the push in and pull out thing.

I think someone just needs to take a picture of the clips/springs/whatever themselves to explain it all, because wrapping your head around how it's assembled is the hardest part of the removal.

Then I went ahead to install the new CD player (Pioneer DEH-P8950BT).

Its not quite flush to the silver trim and its got a small gap at the top but im just happy to have some tunes in the car again. Later I will take it out prop it up make it flush and epoxy the whole thing into the car (will never be removed unless your a butcher)



Cons:

The screne is too small and it difficult to read Also the its kinda glossy so its next to impossible to read when you got the top down and its a sunny day. The time is displayed in like size 10 font!

Pros:

BT hands free works well (will probably save me a fine). Although you have to place the microphone carfully or your friends cant hear you properly. The phone book doesnt sync with my nokia phone properly so to call I still have to get the phone out. But I never make calls when I drive anyway.

i pod connectivity is good

USB is ok (can be a bit slow 20 sec before you start playing some tunes)

Mind you, once you got it out, I'm guessing you went "ohh, that's what he's on about with the prongs and clips and whatnot"

My Pioneer deck is the same in that it doesn't sit flush. I've been debating whether or not to fix it, but I haven't thought about it enough to figure out a solution to get it to mount where I want it to yet.

Have fun with that a few months later when it f's up and you have to get it out to have it repaired or replaced.... Or you decide you want to add an amp and speakers, or, or, or.... I would definately not use any method to fix it in there permanately....

hope you weren't trying that in a shop carpark after buying the tools. what would people think.

i wouldn't fix it in permanetly, maybe get a neon surrounding for it

I just hate to lose stuff to some punk, you just feel gutted

Recently wall mounted my LCD TV, not because it looks better. I drilled the tops off all the screws and dynabolts, so you cant simply unscrew it anymore

Ill think about the CD player carefully hopefully I can think of a \"semi\" permenant solution.

I think I still have the Metra surround for the NB8B so you can have a single DIN unit. Should fit better, and no need for epoxy.

Either that, or Autobarn in Elizabeth St has a spare METRA kit for the NB8B, they ordered 2 when I did mine.

It fits perfectly... it fills that 10 mm gap that used to be at the top of my pionneir CD player. And its all flush around the sliver trim.



Rememter I was thinking of using epoxy but I had a better solution!

I got a bit of chain of decent thickness that cant easily be cut with pliers etc. I wrapped the chain around the metal frame in the car. For the HU I bolted the chain onto the hole that used to have a screw for mounting the rubber thingy. And then I went ahead and stripped the bolt and made it round so it can be unscrewed. (kinda like what I did to one of my break bleeders using the wrong sized wrench but I made this one really round)



(The bolt I used originally held the rubber bit that helps to keep the HU an inch away from the car so it doesnt block the mini fan that cools the HU I think you know what im talking about) The hole is quite deep its got heaps of thread and will hold a decent sized bolt

You can still remove the HU for upgrades and stuff you just cant move it more than 30 cm away from the car.
