yeah, I mean, you only really miss out on 5 or 6 cheap track days @ QR for the year, some dirt cheap skidpan/LVMA days that are coming up, a great club magazine every 6 weeks or so, over 70 club organised runs/events for the calendar year, cheaper auto parts & servicing & paint/panel work from the club sponsors, you don't have to meet all those pesky people you mightn't be able to help yourself but like, along with all the experience with driving, modifying & racing MX5's that come with those people who live & breathe the Mazda MX-5...i mean Jesus, you could get a WHOLE tank of premium fuel for that 80 bucks couldn't you??........all that other stuff up there is insignificant when you look at it like that isn't it?

1red5 & I discussed this very topic tonight when he dropped my 24v Stebel off...I believe he was going home to renew his membership for another year.

This attitude from the young guys (not that I'm old, no WAY i admit that, JBT is old, not me :P ) frustrates me no end....................so jcs86 (Jaron isn't it??)....a personal invitation from me as Gold Coast Chapter Leader to come on our next Chapter run which will be on the 27/7/08.........come along on that, actually, bring along anyone who isn't already in the club from the Mt Nebo night run with you as well, be on the run from go to whoa, if you still think it ain't worth it & tell me so in person, i'll accept that I'm old & busted & out of touch :P  8)

AJ while i agree whole heartedly with you on being in the club....Especially the Gold coast chapter(YOU GUYS ROCK) there is something being overlooked here.
All the get togethers the boys are organising seem to never happen on a sunday :?:
The tech session at fulcrum was most informative(A saturday) but i'm getting the impression they would rather be out driving..

Like you said..cheap parts, etc more than pays for the membership.

As AJ stated, going on runs and discounts on parts and events is but a couple of things, getting to know other people who share the same interests is another.

I have owned my MX-5 for almost 8 years and joining the club, only 9 months ago, opened up new experiences and allowed me to relive the excitement I had when I bought her way back when.

The 5 club rocks! I've been a member for only weeks but here is a comparison with the club I've cut loose:

1/ 5 club actually drive their cars - other club talks about cars
2/ 5 club arranges track days at about the cheapest rate going and has a great turnout - other club doesn't do track days
3/ 5 club arranges runs that people want to go on - other club arranges runs that don't include big hills incase the cars overheat
4/ 5 club is CAMS affiliated so it can participate in timed events - other club costs the same per year but isnt affiliated so doesn't do timed events
5/ 5 club has a range of age groups including grumpy old farts - other club is 90% grumpy old farts
6/ 5 club doesn't mind if you mod your car, you are still welcome - other club is full of originality snobs who think the original air cleaner stickers and wing nuts are VERY important.

I could go on.

yep, that has been mentioned before & I've said on more than one occasion if one of these boys (or 2 or a few) want to get a run happening on a saturday utilising the club, I am more than happy to help out & add it to the GC calendar, we aren't hard & fast on just Sunday runs...............all i ask is that it doesn't happen on the same weekend as GC runs that are already slated............................. 8)

I've renewed for another year. I use RDOs for the track days but well worth it for the experience and fun factor.

Not to mention antagonizing Clive at every available opportunity... Well worth the $70 for SWMBO and I! 8)
