Got around to fabricating a new exhaust system yesterday! :D

The system is a 2.25" diameter stainless steel system that utilises a NPower rear muffler and XForce extractors. A 2.25" high flow catalytic convertor from NPower was also used. I'm extremely happy with not only the improvement in sound but also the incredible increase in top end performance when compared to the original factory exhaust. I'd never get near the rev limiter previously, but now......it's all too easy :twisted: .

There is no droning or booming either.....the combination works very well together.

That work looks hawt! We'll have to "arrange" something when I decide to upgrade my SE exhaust! :P

Made up an extension loom to allow the factory oxygen sensor to be reinstalled. This was required because the tapped boss for the oxygen sensor on the new extractors is further down the track.

Have got a bit of heat through the extractors now.....I have also added a mid-length exhaust hanger as well.

Danny, i'm no exhaust specialist, but wouldn't a straight through exhaust produce more power than the npower exhausts?

Absolutely Sliq :D .

However, the exhaust noise would have been obscene on a road car, and my wife would have been most upset :frown: . A turbo would quieten it down a bit though (I'm not going down that path though)....I run a straight through system with hand-built mufflers on my 626 which uses a turboed 13B. It is quite acceptable.

I've found the NPower unit to be a great rear muffler by providing a noticable increase in engine performance without the unbearable noise. It really does sound great when on song above 4000 rpm.

Do you run around with the extractors unshielded?

My car is in a similar sort of state right now and I'm scratching my head as to whether or not I should worry about heat disspiation...

Yes, I'm currently running them without a heatshield. The reason for a heat shield is to protect surrounding items from excessive heat. I will be fitting a heat shield in the not to distant future.

If you are concerned about heat dissipation from the exhaust gases then a heat shield is not the best solution. I recommend having the extractors ceramic coated (especially if they are mild steel) inside and out (ie. HPC) and installing a heat shield. This will reduce heat exposure of surrounding items and will also keep the exhaust gas energy higher.

Yes they do Sliq. However the standard headers have captive nuts to attach the heat shield to. The standard heat shield will not fit the aftermarket extractors.
