Can Mazda still do it as per normal, or will it need retuning by ChipTorque, or similar, each time?

You should do some reading up on what a piggyback is and what it is compared to a re-map.

No it doesnt physically change the hardware/software charaterstics of the OEM ECU map. So unless Mazda has come up with some mysterious PTCU mod that alters the OEM mapping via OBDII, a service by mazda shouldnt affect a piggyback tune.

My question to you is why are you taking your car to mazda in the first place to service. Apart from the crappy service, warranty? I wouldnt hold your breath, if you think there willing to honour that if you plan on doing piggyback.

Definitely all happens at 5k!
Particularly noticable in Third. She really screams up to the hard cut from about 5k.
Its like a 'second' boost, power comes in about 3k then comes in again, fiercly at about 5k.

Msg, ASE05 who is in your neck of the woods, as he is running a EXEDE in his car. From all accounts, his version does not appear to get rid of the condition your refering too.

Blackster,
ASE05 advised me to go to ChipTorque!

Regarding service, I guess its just force of habit. Have owned Mazda's for last 8yrs and always had dealer services.
Although, last service(30k) at dealer was not impressive. They left splashed oil around the engine and chassis enough that it dripped on my garage floor that night.
I wasn't impressed.
So I need to find a decent service/tune shop.

With current setup (without performance tune) am I risking damage (running lean etc) ?
Track day coming up in 3wks!

I still have the probs with the rocket @ 5K and have the EXEDE but mine is ver. 1 available for the SE. Apparently they're up to ver. 7

ASE05 will be heading back to Chiptorque once I get my hands on injectors.

I posted a thread on the US forum and it sounds like the hesitation is now a thing of the past. Something to do with TPS prediction maps that aren't even in my version of the EXEDE! I've spoken to Chiptorque and they have spoken with BEGI and earlier issues they had with the TPS map thingy are all but a memory now and both Lachlan @ Chiptorque and BEGI are 99% confident that there should be none of the hesitation I experience currently after and upgrade and retune.

MINX - I should hopefully have this all sorted in time for the next track day and be able to let you know how it's going then 8)

As for the TB elbow pipe thingy, I've got the SMB/SP Motorsports on ASE05 and no complaints here.

I remember those @5k kick days.

90% of the hesitation is gone, I barely notice any kick whether at part or WOT. I'm running a non fm 02 clamp with the interceptor.

I could set it up to address the hesitation issue without the need of the 02 clamp, there is an extra injector map or the last time I looked a setting to alter the TPS signal.

In all honesty Haltech should come on board a fix it and do it for nada, but they are a bunch of lazy sods, who's solution is get an E8.

I really CBF spending more time and money on dyno to set it up when the car is running pretty much running ok. Perhaps if i wack on another turbo, I might address it then.

Did you look at stephanie's TPS fix thread? High idle and bucking  Hopefully lachlan takes notes from vishnu and not stephanie..

Sorry fuzzlet for thread jacking.

More then half of those guys in that thread have sold there msm or have swapped over to a hydra, which btw has its own problems. Never the less if vishnu say's his got a fix, id take his word for it over stephanie's. 8)

Phil, what non-FM 02 clamp are you running? What cost and where did you get it form? I noticed earlier you said that a non-FM 02 clamp will work better than the FM version, so i'd rather that that waste time with the FM model.

So you are saying that given some time, it is possible to fix most of this without the need for an 02 clamp whatsoever by use of these TPS setting within the Haltech itself?

Again, if that is possible, I won't even bother with the 02 clamp and just get a Haltech and some 440's and be done with it! :)

Firstly my comparison is based on FM 02 Mod ver 1 not Non FM 02 Mod. Not having the FM 02 Mod Ver 2 in front of me, I cannot confidently say without a doubt it works any different to there previous version.

However, going over the schematics of the FM ver 2 02 mod, the princples are no different to the previous version ie operates under vacuum and clamps the 02 signal at .3V. The only difference with this version appears that is easier to hook up because you do not need to tune the voltage, its pre set.

The ability to alter voltage is important because you can adjust to the amount, according to how much your car is "bogging ie hesitating" during closed to open loop. 0.32 V = lean, 0.47 = stoich, which will neutralize the effect of the ECU until it goes into open loop.

As you may already see .3V may not be adequate and still cause a lean condition, causing bog. Im running about .35 V on my non fm one and activating under boost, so perhaps that may have a bearing as to why i dont feel so much bog.

Again each car is different and you have to set the pressure setting to your altitude you live in (ie 1 psi at 2000 meter above sea level is not the same as 1 psi at 200 meters above sea level) and clamp the voltage according to how much your car bogs. Increasing the voltage too high will neuralize the effect of the ECU into open loop and dump alot of fuel which isnt great for economy.

You can find this Non FM 02 clamp for sale via miataturbo.net, look up the user Olderguy. He makes them and sells them.

So you are saying that given some time, it is possible to fix most of this without the need for an 02 clamp whatsoever by use of these TPS setting within the Haltech itself?

Provided you find a tuner who knows what his doing or your confident enough to set up the extra injector map and or I guess the TPS signal setting, then yes I dont see why it couldnt be done.

Will it get rid of it altogether, again im not 100% confident considering, emanage and some XEDE users still claim some kind of bog.

Proper testing is required, ie need to see the 02 signal from from 0 to 6500rpm not someone claiming "it get rids of 20% without proof".

What happened to the other 60% are any of the other piggybacks clamping the 02 voltage, or running a 5th injector map to get this 60%?

I am not 100% convinced of this DYI TPS fix with the FM 02 clamp for reasonas already mentioned above and that messing with the TPS signal leans the car out. This can be be problematic if you got no engine mangament to mess with fuel.

I am not saying that the FM 02 mod is a bad product, contrary you should get it or any 02 mod for that matter to help fix the lean condition. Dont expect $100 mod to totally fix something that really costs $1800-2k to rectify.

If its out of warranty who cares?
