Danny - it's lookin great! I'm green with envy of all that power.

Can certainly empathise re working yesterday - I installed the new clutch and lightened flywheel. A real bugger of a job when you are doing it on short stands, wearing glasses & sweating like a pig, in a small shed!

Yes you are correct very observant, MX-5 mods are like pr0n to me, I like the pretty pictures
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

yes but that doesn't actually address your initial comment about the intercooler.

danny is there going to be a ARE water to air intercooler fitted, to replace that standard cross pipe?

it's looking really nice so far 8)

Fantastic Danny - can't wait to read & see more about the install & development - I think the M45 is underestimated, although admittedly it requires going the extra mile & has a lower potential ceiling than the MP62.

I am pretty sure danny designed/co designed the pwr water to air intercoolers. I would think he would be doing his own version specific to this car.

PWR's opposition actually James  ... I've done a fair bit of R & D for Aluminium Radiators and Engineering (ARE) at Brendale in Brisbane... hence you see a lot of their handy work on my vehicles...especially the 626. I'll talk more about the IC plans for this car a bit further down the track. The main focus at the moment is to get it up and running so I can make it to the first club track day of the year in early March.

Cheers,
Danny

Well today was as stinkin' hot as yesterday :x :x :x . However great progress was made but not as much as I would have liked!

The day began with the fitment of the replacement aluminium radiator from Aluminium Radiators and Engineering. The unit is almost dimensionally the same as the standard item so it uses the standard side brackets and fans. It is a nice bit of kit.

Image

Image

To help reduce the amount of air bypassing the core I added adhesive backed foam (Neoprene) to seal around the fans, and between the radiator and the radiator support panel.

Image

Here are the standard fans bolted onto the radiator....

Image

....and installed in the car. It's nice everything just bolts straight up :D .

The next mini project for the day was to design and manufacture a heat shield to go between the supercharger and the extractors. It uses an aluminium strong back covered in aluminised fibreglass sheet that is attached by oversized rivets. It leaves a nice air-gap between the supercharger and the heat shield. Here is the result....

Image

Thanks to Saboteur and zoomzoom for the heads up to use the throttle cable from the G-series Bravo ute. 8) With some minor tweaks the cable was absolutely perfect...the standard brackets made the routing of the throttle cable look very factory. :D

Image

A tweak here....

Image

....and a tweek there.

Image

Soooo this is where I got to when I'd had enough.... mechanically the s'charger install is complete. I even ran it in the standard ECU to make sure the TPS extension was right and to bleed the cooling system. I think it looks great!

Image

Image

The plan for tomorrow is to get the MS PNP and the LM-1 installed so that I can drive it home and re-direct my focus back to the NC. I'll do something with the windscreen washer bottle later.....

Cheers,
Danny

It's been a long time coming AJ :P I've had the supercharger kit since June 2007 and the MS PNP since June 2008.

Enough was enough!!!

....and having a second kid due in June doesn't leave me much time to knock a few projects over :P

Danny

Well I'm ready for the weekend now!!! :P .....just have to wait another 4 days.

Didn't quite achieve everthing that I wanted to today...should be getting use to that by now!

The main focus of the day was to get the MS PNP installed and working well enough to drive it home.

Here's a sequence of photos of accessing the std ECU.

Thanks to Mokesta for knocking up an extra bracket so that I could utilise the standard ECU mounting brackets.

The MS PNP in position  .

Image

The extra bit of wiring I needed to do to complete the MS install was to connect the Intake Air Temp sensor (mounted in the dummy throttle body) to the ECU.

Image

Thanks to zoomzoom for taking me through the basics...it certainly saved me a lot of time. 8) As you can see from the below piccie the car got me home with enough time to give the new turf its first hair cut :P . With the timing adjusted correctly it now goes extremely well but is noticebly rich. Next weekend's job is to install the wideband (Innovate LC-1) so that real-time fuel map adjustments can be made. It really feels like an engine of a larger displacement now resides under the bonnet  . It's just what I was hoping for. 8)

Danny
