20rwkw is a good gain. Around 15%?
Good work on lowering the laptimes :)

It doesn't feel much different, but it's when you go back down in power that you really feel the difference. The lap times will hopefully keep going down as i learn how to drive. And it would help if i didn't have the backend let go on the really fast corners. How is your car coming along??

I weighed the car on the way to a.v.o. And it weighed 1060kg's with me and the hardtop. I weigh 90kg and the hardtop is 20kg so the car is 950kg's which is what a stock na wiegh's. A.V.O are going to put a flex join in now. Now if only i can get it down to under a ton with me in it and no hardtop. I will see if i can pull 40 kg's out of it.

how did you weigh it?

you could pull the power steering out to save a few kg's, but that'd be a shame. i think they drive much nicer with PS (wish mine had it) . also the passenger seat probably weighs about 10kg, maybe more? stereo speakers, etc etc

have a look at what this guy has done (altho, he's crazy , gone waaaay too far with the leightweight mods i reckon) :

I weighed it at the clayton dump. All dumps have scales.

I think i need to keep the power steering as the seat is a bit too far back. It's hard to steer now on the tighter turns. The seat has no runners - (keeps me low enough to fit in.)

That's a good link, thanks.

I will start ripping all the easy to get at weight out of it over the next few weeks.

TURBO NA6 CLUBRACER - New wing and thinking of selling/upgra

Postby lightyear » Mon Jan 19, 2009 9:28 pm

I put a rear spoiler on to help me get around turn 1 at p.i. Probably won't do anything at winton. I will get some pics soon - it's pretty big, so should help at 200 km/h.

I am also thinking of selling my car to buy a race car. By the time i get it to a stage that i am happy with it will owe me over $20,000. I have spent over $5,000 on it already since i bought it.

If anyone is interested i want about $11,900. Offers considered. I am in no hurry to sell the car, and if it doesn't sell i will keep it and strip it down for a track only car.

Here is a list of things i have on my 1989 mx5- To4 turbo on 1.6l motor putting out 145 rwkw, microtech - recently tuned by a.v.o. New down pipe and free flowing exhaust, Big front mount intercooler, 1.8l 5 speed g/box with short shifter, l.s.d rear end, some coilovers on the front, lowered springs on the rear, NB8B brakes all round with braided lines and high temp fluid, Hawk blue pads-still lots left, 15x7 konigs with toyo r888's that will be shagged in 3 weeks time, however i do have a set of r spec tyres under the house that are o.k , velo race seat, also have cobra low back seats as well as a pair of cheap race seats, 4 point Rollbar, hardtop with glass rear window, and i have all the parts to convert it to naturaly aspirated so it can pass a roadworthy. Oh, and new wing...And has rego till june 2009.

Just took these pics. You can see a friend of mines big jeep in the background, it looks like a big kids toy. Click on pic to make it bigger and then click on it again to make it even bigger once it has uploaded, because it's hard to see in these pics.

TURBO NA6 CLUBRACER

Went to sandown today, it was great. It rained on and off for half the day and then it stayed dry. I think i got a 1:26 but i will have to wait to find out as they mixed up the numbers on my car. In the morning i got a 1.29.2 but it was slippery. Then we did sprints, where two cars take off at a time from a standing start. That's when the numbers got messed up. The car is overheating still, so i will have to upgrade the radiator and put the oil cooler in. That little mazda sure can take abuse, poor thing.

Finally got the results from sandown. 1.26.1

I went 1.29.2 in the morning just taking it easy because of the weather, but it cleared up during the day and the car was going really well. Anyway i am really happy with the time. Bring on the next sandown sprint.

I bought a set of 15x8 wheels of james, sadly they where silver with a polished lip. I have sanded them down and painted them satin red lip and satin black centers. I might be able to get the new tyres on friday arvo or saturday morning. I will get a pic up of the car sitting on the ground. I also have a new alloy radiator and oil cooler.
