Yesterday at Marulan, I used my old faithful Ultrapod with my Canon digital video camera attached. I just strapped it to the rollbar cross-brace with the velcro strap and wound on a bit of electrical tape to stop it rotating too much. The results were very impressive!
You can buy an Ultrapod on ebay for $13 plus $10 postage.

Pfft that document is a joke......."strongly recommended". No video camera made in the last 10 years would weigh over 1kg anyhow. Mine is about 380g.

Maybe you missed this bit in your haste to dismiss it

despite what the cams rules say, i've seen cameras stuck to the exterior of cars with no more than a suction cup type device. seems hopelessly inadequate to me, but none of the officials / scrutineers have ever seemed t have a problem with it

My camera has a suction cup mount. It was tested by the manufacturer on a GT Cup Porsche rear wing. At 300kph the rear wing of the porsche tore off; the camera mount still stuck to it...
I've done 170kph at Lakeside with it suction cupped to the bonnet without problem.

A couple of rounds back at PI I saw officials removing cameras and things like performance box meters from peoples cars, I presume because they did not like how they were mounted. I think it depends on who you get looking at the cars.

As president of Production Sports Cars Qld, the document has been a talking point within the club for over 12 months. We are currently discussing it's content with CAMS. It is not with haste I dismiss it.
