[quote="hks_kansei"]new number plates arrived today.

POP plates, reprint of standard issue but in slimline and black.

Are these after market plates? I have the bog standard yellow NSW plates on mine and the RTA said I would have to change my rego # to get white or black and pay an annual fee.

I'm not a fan of the yellow but I used to pay $160 a year for my old custom euro plates and I don't want to go there either. Maybe I could paint them??
Cheers,
Ando

In NSW if you want the same numbers from your yellow plates onto white plates it will cost you an annual fee. (yes it's farking weird i know)

However if just want white plates, it will cost you only $70 bucks upfront, but you will need to change rego as well, but that's easy.

no, mine arent aftermarket plates.

in Vic you can contact Vicroads and order new plates in any colour, it was $11.50 per plate for slimline, and $99 for a colour, one off cost.

in NSW I think personalised and colours require an annual fee to be paid?
also, you cant legally just paint the plates yourself.

You can do it person at Vicroads or over the net, called POP plates
http://www.vplates.com.au/pop-plates/
I ordered a set for mine when I registered the new beast, took less than a week to arrive. I reckon they would look great on your car Amanda.

yeah, I did mine over the net, arrived within a couple of weeks.

and the bonus of not having to deal with the local Vicroads office! :P

oh, also made an extinguisher bracket today.

bit of Bunnings Galvanised steel plate thing ($1.60) drill a couple of holes same size/distance as seat rail bolts, spray satin black, attach extinguisher cradle thing, done.

the extinguisher mount is very simple to do and not expensive.

CAMS approved 1kg extinguisher and bracket <$30 from Supercheap auto
galvanised nail plate from bunnings $1.60
seat bolts require a 10mm hole.

if you like I could trace out a template and post it up here?

just finished another addition, this one came out of pure necessity.

because the number plate hangs out in front of the car, this makes it easy for people to walk into and bend my number plate and make it look shitty. I learned this after one day hearing a clunk from the garage and then a large amount of swearing from my dad.

anyway, after straightening the plate I decided it needed some re-enforcement so that this time, the plate is safe. Legs will heal, my car wont. :P

anyway I've had the bits around for ages and today just plucked up the effort to do it.

here's pics.

Image
looks normal from teh front.

Image
is thicker from the top

Image
and looks ghetto on teh back, but thats no issue since you cant really see this bit anyway.

so yeah, after this, teh result is the plate is good and rigid and will take a heap to bend.

It does not need to hang out in front- with slimlines and some adjustment to brackets the plate can be mounted in the "mouth" -grille opening. It seems there is plenty of air flow around the slimline and I have not noticed any cooling impediment.

Do you have any pics of the extinguisher bracket?
Sounds like a good way to mount mine...

I only have one photo, and it's not the best (taken while the paint was drying)

anyway, here it is.

I forget the size of the Gal plate, but there was one in bunnings that was about right, I think 380mm by 150mm sounds familiar?

but the total cost was:
1kg fire extingusher with CAMS approved bracket $35 from Super Cheap Auto
rectangle nailing plate $1.60 from Bunnings
satin black paint $2 (I had a can lying around anyway)
random screws for attaching extinguisher bracket to the plate $free (found them on the bench)

the bolt holes for the seat rails are 10mm diameter, you need a 14mm spanner/socket to remove them.

just remember to measure twice, cut once (or drill once)
also be aware that you need to allow for the extinguisher, mine sits a little too close to the seat and the ext touches the corner of teh seat rail, no problem, but it scratched some paint off the extinguisher.

I presume this is mounted in front of the passenger seat?

Did you bolt the plate between the seat and the rails so it moves with the seat adjuster?
Any pics of it in the car?

Tks

correct, sits just in front of the passenger seat.

no, the plate is underneath the rail, it is sandwiched between the seat rail and the floor,so you can no longer move the seat fore and aft, however because it is using existing bolts you can easily remove the extinguisher in about 5mins.

I shall try and get some pics of it installed soon.
