I put a bid $10.00 higher on ebay 10 hrs before the finish just to see what the highest bid was. I had no idea it would sell for so little.. I have to stop looking at mx5 for sale stuff.

I put a new front splitter on today, it goes back to the crossmember. And put a few more holes in the bonnet.

I hit the wall at sandown just before the last corner. Not too bad, but enough to bend the swingarm and make the car undriveable. And it was only the practice session. I did manage a best time of 1:25:7

Should only cost a couple of hundred to fix.

I made it out of a 3mm thick sheet of alloy laminated over plastic. Very stiff and light. They use it for sign writing. It comes in 4mm as well. It is stiff as it is only supported at the front/bumper and at at the crossmember, i was a bit worried of it flexing down the straight, but it was good at over 200km/h.

Look at how much the bonnet is lifting on the straight at phillip island. I have more vents there now but maybe not enough.

3rd gear drift, you can just make out the smoke at the rear tyres.

The car had new bushes installed while the suspension was out, and i bought a set of whiteline adj swaybars. When i put the rear one in i snapped the bolt on the d bracket, so ran it without a swaybar on the rear. I did put some wire to stop the rear droop from being so excessive. Also has the rear window in. The car felt much easier to drive on the limit, meaning i kept the car on the track for the whole day. I think that is a first for me. All the changes netted me a time only 0.6 faster than my previous time there. Toward the end of the day the car was really laggy and only had 8 psi boost from 6000rpm. The wastegate actuator rod had come off meaning the wastegate was staying open. I will go to sandown again on the 28th with the wrx club (with a few more tweaks) and see how it goes. It doesn't need more power as many people comment on how fast i go past them, I just want to make it lighter and easier to drive fast.

Edit: Also forgot, i took the p/steering off and put a manual rack on. I felt good on the track.
I also found one of the intercooler pipes had poppped out a bit near the turbo, that's why it didn't make full boost.

TURBO NA6 CLUBRACER - twin headlight conversion pics

Postby lightyear » Tue Jun 09, 2009 8:20 pm

The Downpipe:
I bought some heat wrap today and went to put it on the turbo and downpipe. But first i had to put new studs and nuts in from the turbo to downpipe as they are shagged. When i pulled the downpipe off i noticed it had cracked halfway around. That might be why it is always leaking.
To make it even worse when avo made it they charged me extra to make a divider in between the exhaust outlet of the turbo and the wastegate. There was nothing inside........

The Headlights:
I was thinking of attatching the headlight lids to the bonnet, but then i would have to run the loom along the bonnet. So i will just make some simple alloy brackets to hold them in place. When i have time i will take a mould of a good bonnet and see what i can come up with.
I am getting some more carbon fibre during the week and making the headlight assembly on the weekend. I am hanging out to make some c.f. doors too, but i have to wait untill i get a cage put in for some side protection.

I also weighed the headlights and they are 6 kilo's lighter than the stock setup.

I weighed the 15x8 9ul wheels with the 205 toyo r888's and they weigh exactly the same as the standard nb8a 15's with normal road tyres at exactly 15.0kg's. Not bad considering how much wider the wheels and tyres are.
I also did
- p/steering complete unit @ 11.8kg's i didn't weigh the non assisted steering rack but it is noticabley lighter.
- headlight assembley 4.0 kg's each
