MX5 National Entry Forms out now!!!!!!!

Postby tbro » Wed May 06, 2009 7:35 am

Hi all,

Well looks like I might not be doing the Nationals after all. :( :(

Had a call from the CAMS doctor yesterday arvo.

Apparently its ok for me to drive a coach load of passengers or a B double, but because of my eye sight in my left eye they might not be able to let me drive a MX5 in a CAMS event.
Its fine to do AASA events and he even encouraged me to do that and get the Clerk of the Course to sight me and advise CAMS of my ability to steer the car on the track.
So now it"s up to my eye specialist (who told me at my last visit 2 mths ago that there is no reason I can't hold a CAMS license as far as she was concerned) and the CAMS doctor in Melbourne to try and work out a solution.

So I'll keep my fingers crossed.

That's bad news Terry. Fingers crossed the red tape won't keep you out of the meeting. Are you going to run any AASA events before then at QR?

Are you able to go to a different doctor for a second opinion?

Had a look at the regs for AASA race meetings etc, still need a CAMS license, so no I won't be racing at any meeting until all this gets sorted out :( :(

I just hope I haven't done all this work and spent all this money to just be able to do only club and sprint events, kind of defeats the purpose of building a race car!!!

Cams are looking at changing the rules end of July, but that then means another medical etc, so more money.

The doc from CAMS seems a pretty reasonable guy and is trying to work with my eye doc to sort it out. I actually was worried that my leg would have caused me greif but thats all ok, go figure!!!

So I'll keep working on the car ready for Warwick and what ever happens happens.

Terry

Hi Cal

This is actually CAMS own doctor in Melbourne, the doctor who did the medical in brissy was quite confident that everything was all ok.
The reasoning behind my doctors opinion and the doctor in Brissy that my eye is not a problem is that its an old injury, like 48yr old, happened when I was 4 yrs old. I've grown up with only partial vision in my left eye so i've learnt to cope with it, only ever had problems when I got my class 4 bus license, did a special test with the RTA docs who gave me a clean bill of health.
The CAMS doc is trying to be helpful so will just have to wait and see(HA HA).

The AASA race meetings require a AASA National licence, but I believe if you have a CAMS licence they will recognise it.

We're doing General Practice on Sat morning @ QR, you should come out with us and talk with the Raceway staff then about it.

Terry, you'll be able to get a AASA licence.

All you need to do is fill in the application form, pay your money and then hit the track. Provided you don't do anything stupid whilst being observed you'll pick up your licence at the end of the day.

Paul.

Yep, as this and FOSC Oran Park might be the only 2 big meetings I do this year, I'm milking it for all it's worth.

Good to see it all came together for you Lou.

Is everyone sorted for a place to stay? There are still a few rooms left at the Cri. Send me a PM for details.
