*TURBO* Engine Build - Coming out to fix oil leak :<

Fuzzlet wrote:Well if ur running stock cams with the standard ecu that might have something to do with it, otherwise I cant help ya

Nah, cause it ran fine for a while.

I think I may not have put enough tension on the timing belt, and its skipped a tooth, oh well, will just have to time it for the 10th time :P

Oh well, engine has to come out anyway to sort oil leak and clutch issues - Should have it going sweet eventualy

OK, finaly going to pull motor again this week, and now that my missus has a job again, i can afford to do a few other things while im at it.

Adjustable Cam Gears
New Timing Belt
New Clutch (something tough enough for turbo)
Repaint the now very scratched rocker cover in nice blue crackle

Hmm.. think the ECU was just getting angry with the cams, ran ok when i started it again.

Took motor out (takes us under an hour to pull an MX5 motor now i swear!), its indeed leaking oil like a bastard from the rear sump seal (rear main is fine), will get it sealed up properly, chuck in a new tougher clutch then back together :D

Huzzah!

I was going to ask if we'd get to see it on the next club run, but I won't be there anyway so I won't bother asking :)

Nice! Good to hear man! I would say its getting flat spots because the car isnt tuned for the cams. Afterwards the thing will go pretty damn hard

Thats what i was thinking, kinda already goes pretty damn hard, but i suspect there might be another few kw in the ECU, and i expect it will fix the flat spots and idle up (idle is almost fine anyway) :D

*TURBO* Engine Build - Running! (No Turbo Yet)

Postby daffyflyer » Mon Jul 13, 2009 11:59 am

Well, done about 800km on the motor now - seems to be going well - had a coolant leak, but was fixed by tightening a clamp!

Also leaks oil from the CAS so might need to replace a seal.

Now that i have put a few ks on it and done some oil changes i feel more confident to use the upper end of the rev range, and its certanaly quick up there, cams make a good difference :D

Yeah, bugger.

Its going pretty well besides that though, its got a big pile of power above 5000rpm now - peaky-ish, but fast

Doing any engine mods yourself yet?
