not as quick as I wanted!
Well, to be honest I thought Id aim for a high 1.15 as at a practice a mate hand timed me at a 1.16.3
And since then I put the full exhaust on and pulled a 1.15.1 which im stoked with!
and yes, on semi slicks - I feel in better conditions I can do a high 1.14, just need more track time!

From someone who has been a member of or associated with a number of car clubs over the years, both old (eg. renault) and new (eg. jdmst, altezzaclub), the MX5 Club is an exceptional car club in the way it caters for what is a huge variety of drivers and demographics. I highly recommend anyone even thinking about it to just get involved!

Phil, awesome work on posting this up! A friend and i were only looking at the records on the Club site not long ago and wondering when they would be updated. Aforementioned friend is currently researching his next budget trackday car, and this makes for great 'told you so!' material!

At the Nationals in QLD a few of us had a discussion about the lap times at Wakefield since the resurfacing. When it was 1st done it was around 1.5 seconds faster. This was due to the better grip, the fact a couple of the key corners were reshaped, and the majority of ripple strips were now at the same height as the new track surface. Not long after this a couple of the ripple strips were added at a much greater height than before  . Where you could once float the car across the top and use the kerbs for help with turning in, you now avoid them like the plague for fear of ending up side down in the gravel  . With the deterioration of the new surface and the ripple strips issue, although the track is faster in some areas, overall lap times now are similar to what they were before the work was done.

Additionally the line between STD and modified cars is often crossed, or at the very least bent. Also where once a modified car was just that, now "road registered" full race cars are in the category. I remember in my road registered NA being moved from the road registered class to the racecar class because my car was deemed to be "not in the spirit of a road legal car". I look back at what mods it had compared to the cars running in the modified car section now and laugh  . I’d imagine quite a few of these cars would struggle to get a pinkslip when rego is due and a lot more would be in trouble if they ever needed a blueslip…….

The most important thing is to have fun and work to your own plan regarding improving your driving and never be afraid to ask for guidance or tips. Generally the most important thing you can do is get as much track time as possible. I can assure you if you can drive a std NA6 fast and consistent you will be able to drive any MX5 fast. 8)

It looks like there might be a mistake with this one. Kevin's best on 26 Oct 2008 was 1:13.41. The 1:11.46 best lap was done by David Hammon in Class 5.

Well spotted. All fixed.

This is one Class record that could easily be dropped another 3+ seconds and I'm sure that if Andrew's car continues on its development cycle that it won't be long before Mr Plod cries enough and rips up his registration papers. Then this record is gone.

Kevin just drives for the fun of it and tends to alternate between the MX-5 and his 2003 Porsche 911. When I say he drives for the fun of it, he is quicker in the MX-5 than the Porsche, so you can see he’s not pushing either car to their limit.

You would think so considering the Class 6 NA6A record is down at 1:11.05 on the old surface. In fact, all of the NA8A records are a bit on the "high" side. I suppose there's not so many of them compared with NA6A and NB8A. So will we see evil_weevil competing at the next one in October?

 And his only NA competition in Class 6 has been Jean in the same car. So there's a challenge for someone.

It's nice to know that after my NB8B was stolen in '08, that my Class 1 record still stands. It was a gem of a car which will be missed  . Hopefully some of the bits made it into Chris Tonna's car. If you need some one to test different model cars for comparing track times, I'm available  .

If my time is beaten, I always vowed to buy another NB8B to re-claim the title. Give me a good reason as justification for my wife  . See ya! Enjoy guys 'n' gals!

Scott and Glenn have been improving their stock NB8B times. They're still a fair way behind your old record though Albert! Scott's best was 1:17.78 on 4th May 2009.

Hey CB, I might have found another addition for the record book. Matt Guyder did a 1:14.7884 in his modified NA8A (Class 4) at the Supersprints on 28th Jun 2009, which is improved from his previous record of 1:15.22 on 17th Sep 2007. However, I suspect this one might be ineligible since it looks like the timing was from the normal start/finish line on the main straight.

I don't think supersprints count, it has to be a time done on an Mx5 clubday. That way the weather is equal for all attending...

I'm sure they'll get there and surpass my efforts with time...let me know when they do so I can have another go! Yeehaa!

At least some Supersprints seem to count. Looking at the list on page 1, two of the records were posted at the Supersprint on 3rd May 2009. It was run by MX-5 Club NSW, and judging from the times recorded on Natsoft (two decimal places), they seem to have used the same timing system and start/finish as at the club's own track days. So I'd assume that it is only the Supersprints which do not use the same timing system that are excluded from the club records.

Maybe I should have checked page 1 again before my last post. I just noticed that CB edited the list on 5th August and now Matt's time at the 28th Jun Supersprint is shown as the record for Class 4 NA8A. Then again the intro says it is for "club run events" only, and the 28th June Supersprint was run by Mini Car Club NSW. Shouldn't that mean that Matt's 1:14.78 time doesn't count for this list?

But I'm not sure ... hence the question.
