Not sure on a place like the garage... but I have heard mention on other forums about somewhere called 'harry's diner'? I think it's on the northside somewhere.

I feel incredibly lucky to be living in a city that has something like the Garage Cafe. It's a rare luxury.

yeah Harry's is at Newmarket and is probably as close as it gets to something similar to the garage cafe. I'm not sure of opening times these days, but it's only usually Friday and Saturday nights. There are always plenty of P plate wearing bogans there, and cops, but there are also some very good cars too. Predominately US muscle cars and harleys... Either the first or last Friday of the month (can't remember exactly which) has a massive turn out of muscle cars - always some very good machinery.

It got a bad rep a few years ago when some dill in a Corvette lost control leaving the car park and plowed into numerous people standing around watching... There used to be hundreds of people there every Friday night, and most cars would leave in a cloud of tyre smoke.

Edit: Is on Newmarket Rd, at Windsor...

I couldn't agree more.

Maybe we can just set up a meet-up once at Harry's, on an "off-peak" night, say Wednesday, and see how we go?

The best we've done is 3 MX-5's in a row, then another car, then another MX-5, and two others in a row on the opposite side of street on Park Rd 8)

I took my bright yellow Moke to Harry's once :D I thought some of the muscle car crowd would get a bit aggro with some 4 cylinder thing that can't make tyre smoke but they just happily ignored it.

I just live down the road and when it was at it's peak (prior to the last ownership change) there would be cars doing laps around the burbs for hours after the place closed. Nearly had some in our front yard! The accidents and the cops got the crowds down and reduced the back street hoons. I haven't been back since the last change in owners.

If I were to recommend something it would be Vinnies Cafe at the Reading Newmarket complex. Excellent food incl pizza and they are on the edge of the Coles car park. We could probably organise to hog the whole carpark near Vinnies. They do dinners Wed Thur and Fri.
