Fair enough. There's definitely a lot of variation between dynos and the Mania one seems to give fairly "high" numbers.

It certainly would've been better if I could have worked out how to get the pod filter out of the engine bay and located it at the front of the car somehow. I was working on one setup, but it was quite difficult trying to run 3" pipe down and around the radiator to get it in a suitable position, so I went for the easier option for now.
That said, this is probably the most effective pod filter setup you can run in the engine bay. The pod filter is located in a high pressure area of the engine bay which will help "force" the air in a little. It's probably not quite as effective as the Loch Stewart type intakes, but the CAMS regs don't allow us to cut holes in the firewall, so this is the next best thing.
I initially got the idea from the Spec Miata guys in the states. Just about every single Spec Miata car runs a similar intake, albeit with the standard airbox as a requirement of their regs, but trust me, those guys have done plenty of research and testing to get the last hp out of their setups.
The other thing to consider is the length of the intake. Gary Stewart (son of Loch Stewart) whos builds 95% of the race engines here in QLD, has done a lot of dyno testing of the length of intakes, and informed me that the ideal length of an intake to achieve the best possible torque and top end power, is approximately 1100mm. Some shorter runs may produce more top end power but they will lose torque. This one is about 1050mm and has very little restriction in the run.
Considering it alone was worth 7hp at the wheels over the standard airbox & intake, I'd say it's reasonably effective

Wow nice, I'm going to do something very similar once I get my ARC crossover pipe. Could a heat shield over your extractors help even more?
Also, those are CES extractors right?

A heat shield will probably slow down the heat soak in the engine bay, so on short runs there may be a small benefit. Exhaust wrapping may be a little more effective, but once again, eventually the heat soak will take affect.

Bonnet up, same as the first dyno run with the standard airbox and intake, although not done on the same day so conditions may have varied slightly.
It quite possibly won't be as effective with the bonnet down, but I've removed the rubber weather stripping that sits between the firewall and bonnet to help with the air flow.

That is not the firewall, the firewall is between the engine bay and the cabin, what you want is a hole in the cowl, ie between the engine bay and the windscreen wipers...

My intake is a twisted route for the piping, with the aircleaner sitting in front of the radiator, and it is exactly Gary's dimensions! But it was not easy...

Do you have any pic's of the coolant re-rout into the back of the motor? What goes on back there? Did you make this kit yourself ?
